I shoot mostly video on my t3i and I originally had the kit 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens but the kit didn't have enough zoom and the 55-200 wasn't wide enough. I got the 18-200mm lens and haven't looked back since. I'd love to try an 18-135 to see if I'd really miss the extra 65mm of zoom.
On a side note, I looked at my receipt for the 55-250mm lens I bought last boxing day and it was $20 cheaper last year ($249.99) than this year ($269.99).

Yes, IS one is the way to go, but you can also say the 2.8 IS II L is the way to go, it really depends on your buget, the non IS 70-200 is a stellar lens, one of the best value in Canon line up, go for it if you have the money.

I have the 18-55 that came with the kit, and bought a 55-250IS to go along with it, planning on getting the cheap $99 Portrait lens this boxing day, but i really want a nice lense for my Birding adventures. The 55-250 does a good job, but I am looking for a step up, but in the process don't want to break the bank. You know what I mean?
Any suggestions? I heard the 70-200 is the way to go, and would like the (IS) feature included, but the price difference between models is thru the roof, your thoughts?

I'm hoping to get the 85 mm f1.8. If anyone knows a good deal, please share. Thanks!

I wasn't planning on anything but an extra CF card or two this Boxing Day, but that 70-200 f4 for $599 is mighty tempting. My lens game plan at this point (just upgraded from an XSi to a used 7D last week, finally) was to wait until I can afford the 2.8 non-IS model, but this seems like pretty much a free rental. I've seen two of the f4s selling used for $575 and $625 recently, so I think anyone dreaming of one of the higher-end ones could definitely justify getting this as a step up from the 55-250 (which I'm using right now - good lens for the price, but by no means an "L"), enjoying it for however long it takes to save up another $500-1500 (depending on what you want next), and selling it for pretty much the same as you paid.
PS: This post may or may not have been partially to convince myself that I should buy it. Hopefully it worked.

Go for it! Not sure if it will be online as a doorcrasher but I would check tomorrow night as I am finding that is a hell of a lot better than standing outside a future shop store on boxing day.

Anybody know if there will be a deal somewhere on 50mm f/1.4...? Henry and Vistek both claim to have "canon lenses on sale" but there is a lack of specific detail here.

for those in the prairies, Don's Photo has a T3i kit with 18-55mm, 50mm 1.8 lens and an extra battery for $599. I wish this was in the GTA
Any chance stores would match competitors boxing day price?

I'd recommend buying the nifty fifty that will be on sale at ...was it FS or BB? It should be $100. This is a fast prime lens and at 50 mm but may take some time to get used to manually walking back and forth since it's not a zoom lens, but this lens is a must for low light conditions. Think model is 50 mm F1.8 or something like that

I think this is the best price for T4i this BD, searching for the nearest Blacks store now.

I just PM'd the t4i with 18-55mm lens at Memory Express. Got it for $589.99 before tax.
To those of you who will use the 18-55mm kit lens for video, it is a bit noisy since you can hear the autofocus motor of this lens. This can be particularly annoying when it has to constantly adjust focus for moving objects. A better choice would be to go with a kit that includes the 18-135mm STM lens. While not as silent as an STM lens, I plan to use the t4i with my ultrasonic lenses and as a backup for my 7D.
