Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM review

Seems to be a decent walk-around lens for all the 1.6x bodies out there. It's a significant image quality upgrade over the similar lens, the EF-S 17-85 which I used for the longest time back in my starter days.

The price seems quite steep though, you need to pay 660 + tax extra to get it as a kit along with a 7D (according to aden), or 1k + tax if it is purchased as stand alone.

To me, it is kind of hard to justify when you can pay a little more to get a 17-55.

If this lens will ever come down to the price level like the current 17-85 ($3xx on CL brand new), this should a really nice single lens walk around solution. Even at $500, i can see this lens to be very popular.

Give it a few months, hardware is always at a premium when its first released.

I think in a few months when all the first comers buy it, they'll resell it at $200-$300 below retail.

Seems like a good fit for the 7D.

Still no hood included!
Deal with it.

^ You know how canon is.

Doesn't always bundle hoods with 1/2 its lenses. :(

Are there any EF-S lenses that do or ever did come with a hood?

Nope.

Only the higher end EF L lenses comes with them.

If the lens was f/4 through out the entire range (like the 24-105 USM L f4) for the same price, I'd get excited.

Maybe Sigma or Tamron will produce something similar, with better specs, for less cash.
