I just purchased a Canon SD1100IS digital camera and would like to get an extra battery. FS sells them for ~$80 which is way too much.
Are there alternates that I can use?
Thanks in advance.

i would suggest you purchase canon's genuine NB-4L battery.. sometimes the battery would go on sale.. Purchasing a remade version will only kill you and your camera.. could erupt into flames. avoid ebay batteries.

You obviously don't have experience...
Get something from Sterlingtek. Lots of community support behind these guys. The battery I got easily lasts at least as long as my genuine OEM Canon battery. Competitive pricing and cheap shipping too._______________
Deal with it.

There are dozens of sources of cheap NB-4L replacement batteries. Unfortunately most of them are junk. They work fine for a short time, but they have nowhere near the lifespan of the original battery (at least all the ones I've tried - I can't say about Sterlingtek). But I haven't hear of any of them catching fire or exploding, so I doubt that's a high risk. The original Canon battery is best if you can get it during one of the very rare sales, but the normal price is ridiculous.

I've purchased dirt cheapo ebay batteries twice now. The first time I bought two batteries. Battery life was less than the Canon branded one but would still plug away about 250 shots with some video in there. Then my wife said they wouldn't hold a charge and then I bought another pair of el cheapos. They're about the same.
Keep in mind my wife doesn't manage her batteries well and would likely overcharge them. I used one of her "broken" batteries and to me they appeared to be fine.
Get the cheapos. Even if you buy 6 you still pay less than a Canon.

I bought my SD200 battery replacement on ebay for a song. It's still going strong.
Not to hijack but I've started seeing NP-FM500H replacements for the Sony A200 going for about $30. Any one tried any replacements one yet?

I use ebay as well. You can find OEM, or aftermarket on their most of the time. The sd1100 is a really common camera, so I'd say that chances are, you'll have a big selection of aftermarket batteries. I've always been a fan of OEM batteries, but there are some good aftermarket ones.
