Are car cheapers in Toronto or Montreal?
I am moving to Montreal from Toronto in 2 weeks time. Was wondering if there is a price difference / tax difference b/ween the 2 cities and which is a better place to buy a car from? Help pls.
I am talking about new as well as used cars...

From my meanderings on auto trader, it looks like Ottawa is cheaper.
In your position I would get a car over there considering how easy it is to hide a bad car history in Québec.

When I was looking at 2006 Audi A4s a few months ago, asking prices in Montreal were a good $1-2k cheaper. A car with a dealer service history and that has no paint overspray or other obvious signs of an accident is probably okay to buy in Que. Do not buy a used car without getting your own CarProof.

They use road salt here like it's going out of style. Be warned.

New cars: slightly cheaper in Ontario by about $300 because of the taxes and the way Freight and Delivery is calculated
Used cars: that is another story, hit and misses. Also, someone mentioned that a car in Toronto could be less subject to rust because of the weather difference and road salt
in both options, don't forget that if you want to put a Quebec plate on a car coming from another province, you have to have the car inspected for a safety inspection, that is about $150 to $200 fee at a registered garage approved by the SAAQ here. That amount is just for inspection meaning that if they find something wrong, you have to spend money right away to fix the actual problem before they can sign off the inspection. The inspection itself is basic safety : turning signal, visual inspection of the underneath, suspension, brakes, exhauts pipes, driveabilty in general, it does not include emissions nor other mechanical issues
oh yes, you might also want to know that it is MUCH cheaper to insure the car here in Montreal than the exact same car in Toronto

+1
One cm of snow or a few drops of freezing drizzle in some municipalities and out come the salt trucks and spread it by the ton. It gets so bad most roads turn white and stay white all year from the salt.
