Car Rental - 3rd party liability coverage
I'm planning to rent a car in Toronto (Yonge and Bloor location) and I was wondering if the 3rd party liability insurance is included with the cost of the rental.
I tried booking online and the only optional insurance that they have in there are Collision Damage Waiver and Personal Accident Insurance; no 3rd party liability.
I am gonna use my TD Visa card for the rental so the Collision Damage Waiver is covered. The only thing left I think that's necessary is the 3rd party liability coverage.
Thanks and any advice you want to give about renting cars would be great.
I was dinged before by a small rental agency for a minor scratch that I'm sure was not caused by me (I did not check the car carefully) so I'm afraid to rent cars. This hard lesson costed me $300. This time, I'm renting with Hertz. I'm hoping that since they are a bigger company, they will not do any hanky-panky stuff.

3rd party liability is included in the rental in Canada (i believe by law) so don't worry about it. In the US, you have to buy it separately. I use the TD visa for Collision Damage Waiver myself. I use Hertz and National extensively, never any problems and they will never dinge you for stuff like small scratches.

i used my gold elite TD visa @ rentals,
i've talked to the rentals and also called visa,
in brief words, the Credit cards insurance will cover
only if you are in Canada....but once u cross the border
it's not cover. if you do plan on crossin' the border,
IMO, get the insurance off the rental.....yes
i know it's a rip off @ $20/day...but it's a relief...
correct me if i'm wrong...

All of my platinum cards provide coverage, however, there are some exclusions so you better check with your CC company to make sure the car you are renting is covered.
The coverage stops if within a rental period you change cars (you rent car a, dont like it and then go back to change it for car b). I read this on my coverage sheet that is in fine print.
