Fees for young drivers
As a 24 year old who rents a lot of vehicles (including SUVs) for business purposes, here is what I have discovered:
It's easier if it is for business purposes.
Fees (if any) vary a lot by location, even within a chain. Locations in tourist spots (Victoria, Vegas, etc) seem to be pickier about young drivers than in industrial spots (Ft. Mac, etc).
I've had the best luck with Enterprise & Thriftys. I've also used National a few times, but it took some convincing.
Phone around. Try to phone the individual locations instead of head office. If I'm travelling somewhere new I phone almost every rental company in that location and have always been able to find one willing to rent with no fee or a low fee. I've also found some companies which force you to take their insurance coverage if your under 25 unless you bring documentation to prove you have coverage on rental vehicles.
