See if you can get a used pair of Altec Lansing car speakers. Back in the days they sounded amazing. Unfortunately they are not mfg'd any longer.

Car Speaker Advice
Hi all,
I recently upgraded the deck on my 96 Civic and am now in search of something to replace my stock speakers with. I don’t need anything top of the line. I just want something that will be an improvement over the stock speakers and that won’t cost me an arm and a leg. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should get and where to pick them up? Thanks.

Stock Replaement speakers
I'm in the same boat as you in terms of wanting to replace the stock speakers to try and get a better sound. I'm sure everyone has an opinion but here is what I have done so far. I agree with staying away from FS or BB unless they are seriously clearing out some of their higher end stock. I just find what they carry isn't a very good range. I just purchased a set of MB Quart tweeters and 6.5" components from a soundsaround sale for $88. Supposedly they retail at $398 (I doubt if anyone paid anywhere close to that price). From what I have been told, it is more important to replace the front speakers with a good set and less important for those speakers just behind the rear seats. I'm probably going to invest in a good (but not overpowering) subwoofer setup, probably something that will match and balance. I really can't stand those cars that are ALL bass. I know there are better but I've got my eye on a 10" Alpine TYPE R sub. Any opinions on what I've said?
