Career change?
So heres where I am:
I am the store manager of a large retail chain. I'm looking to change jobs/careers and would like some advice on possible avenues to pursue. I've been working in the retail field for quite some time and would like a change.
However I would not be willing to change if it would mean a salary decrease.
So I'm looking for a job that would pay me 80K yearly. I have a university degree in political science and have been working in retail for 8 years, 4 years in a management capacity.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you want a change and since you have lots of good experience, how about considering going to a MBA school?

I've been thinking about it, but I'm only 1 year out of university. And I know that most MBA programs ask for 2-3 years of post-graduate experience. Also I'm not sure I want to go back to school again.

$80k salary a year out of a Poli Sci degree is going to be hard to beat if you want to switch careers without going back for an MBA.
Many business schools do take into account work experience gained during school, so I think you would still meet the requirements. Keep that option open if the idea of going back to school is not too unpleasant._______________

if you are in a large retail chain, then there must be a home office right? make the transition there first (i.e. buying or supply chain role); they may be able to hold your salary, plus you'll gain a different type of experience.

well said, i agree it isn't realistic to change fields/careers and stay at the same salary. case in example is my brother.
- graduated from engineering at uoft years back
- lands engeering position for US company, makes 6figures for 4 yrs
- gets bored and comes back to toronto to start a family and decides to pursue IT (it was kinda hot back then), not a good decision money wise... he was making $57k as a mid level IT manager.
well he came full circle though...
- he's back at an engineering job, got offered 6figures for an engineering position at Telus although he took a job working for an oil company in Calgary.
That being said, no regrets... just do what you feel will be best and make you happier overall. -sg
