carrers in demand?

I've been laid off and problems finding work. I've been to a government career adviser and they can't steer me into any direction. Basically useless and they can't even tell me whats in demand. They told me not to go into the medical field cause there will be mass layoffs in 5 years? So I'm basically having problems choosing what I want to do as in retraining. I'm going thru the second career process. Any recommendations would help. Also if you know any good career assessment sites, that would be helpful too. thanks

Do what you like, not what people suggested

Just because the career you are getting yourself into now is in demand, doesn't mean they will be in the future.
