I remember when I got this drive 2 years ago for $100. Something about me won't let me buy another (mine is full) until they are back to $69-$79 range.

This isn't too bad. I'm just happy the prices are becoming a little more reasonable again

It'll be my second time RMA-ing a WD Green, and I'm monitoring a third Green which is acting funny...
My deskstars are surviving longer.
I used to be a WD loyal user.

WD RMA was pretty painless for me. Shipped broken drive to mississauga and refurbed drive back to me in about 3 weeks round trip. If you're worried about data loss do a basic raid-1 across 2 drives or duplicate important files manually.

People looking for a 2TB Green drive have zero interest in a SSD drive, as one is meant for mass storage, the other meant for optimal performance. Try building a 16TB media server out of SSD drives!
Everyone's concerns over reliability of one brand over another are just a handful of person experiences. What they all come down to is that it does not matter what brand of drive you buy as anyone of them could fail tomorrow. What matters is how important your data is and in turn, what measures you are taking to protect it as best you can afford. Raid is an option, but I found it not practical for a media server as it would require excess expense that would have proven better used towards increasing capacity. I've gone with UnRaid, allowing me to currently only require 1/12th of my storage to be sacrificed for data protection (one parity drive, 11 data drives). Is my data 100% safe? Absolutely not, as I this does not protect me against theft, flood or fire. What it does do is protect the data so that I can lose any one drive and restore the lost data, to the bit, within a day.
The quality of one's power supply, the air flow in your computer, the type of enclosure, the controller, can all be factors resulting in hard drive issues. If you are starting to experience multiple failures, I would start thinking the problems isn't necessarily the drive. The drive may just be the symptom caused by a deeper problem.
My 2 cents on the topic!
I you look through one of the other threads, there are links to various different External 2TB drives, all around the $120 price that have Seagate, WD or Hitachi drives inside ( 2 of them were at Best Buy ), so those that have a hate-on for one brand can just buy the other and rip the drive out!
