CD/DVD Labels

I've got a bunch of CD and DVD disc that I want to put labels on because my handwriting just looks like crap. Do I need to buy those label kits first before the label refills because it comes with the software? I know I can get label creating software but can I really use any label brand? I'm worried that because the printing has to be right on within the CD circle, that if I put the label in the printer it won't print within it. Any help is appreciated.

You need the labeling software first (see what types of labels it is compatible with).
Then, you can buy the "stomper" (the circular plastic thingy on which you apply the label to the CD).
Then, you can buy refills (you don't have to buy a kit in this case).

When I used to print labels, I would use a blank piece of paper first and print two labels on it at a time in low resolution quality to not waste ink.
Sometimes it would take 2 or 3 tries, but I'd get it lined up.

You don't actually need one of the kits, but it's nice to have the applicator to make it easier to put the label on. I had a friend who use to put the labels on freestyle, and then when I sent her a CD Stomper, she thought it was the greatest thing.

I never bothered with the software. You can use make your own templates in your favourited image editing software. Just take the measurements of the label sheets.

PS. I recommend the hub printable labels so you get a bit more extra space. Almost all labels out there are a bit see-through, so it's best to use them with discs that don't have graphics. If anyone knows where you can get fully opaque labels in Canada easily, feel free to pipe in .

Labels are the worse thing for your discs. It doesn't matter if your hand writting is terrible. After all, you are the only one that has to know what it says. If you value your data, don't use labels.

I'm not putting any graphics on the label, just words so it's neater and more readable.

as the laser hits the underside of the CD/DVD, it dissipates the heat from the top. when you place a label ontop of the CD/DVD, you dont allow the CD/DVD to "breathe"... go with an Epson R200/R300 and printable CD/DVD.. that's the best solution if you want fancy CD/DVDs.

While I'm sure putting sticky labels on a disc isn't the best thing for it, some people make it sound like it makes your disc unreadable. It's one of those things where people who have bad experiences make the most noise, whereas people who haven't had problems aren't going to write articles about it.

Oh yeah, ink seeps into the disc and will ruin the disc also .
