cdma short term

I'm considering one of those cheap pre-paid Virgin phones.

There's one pre-paid card for $25 each 3 months, 30 cents a minute. The phone itself costs $39, it's a very basic one. It's only for emergency use. ("Please pick me up", "Buy bread/milk"?)..........

My question is:

Virgin = Bell?

Isn't Bell switching all its network to GSM late this year?

Will this CDMA phone become useless after that?

I know that Bell will honor a 3-year contract if it's CDMA, but what about a pre-paid CDMA phone?

Thanks.......

GSM? Haha. It's all rumors that are floating all over the place from a few overrated analysts. There's nothing really in place yet, and I'm fairly certain about this.

Virgin != Bell. Virgin uses the Bell network, and Bell owns a sizable chunk of Virgin Mobile.

You'll be safe with CDMA for a long time to come. Even if they do switch, it'll be a long time before they turn off the CDMA side of things. Look at Telstra in Australia for example - they had both networks running for a long time prior to the CDMA shutdown.
