Changing car speakers

One of the front speakers no longer works, so I want to change the pair at the door panel with some better quality ones than factory. Is it really necessary to change the ones at the back as well?

It's rare that I carry any passengers in the back seat, and I don't crank up the volume past the 'normal' listening level. The installation costs for the front speakers are quite reasonable, but it's quite expensive for the rear as they have to remove seats, etc. I don't want to go through the expense as I might be replacing the car in a few years.

Nope, I never bother with rear speakers. Stereo's are designed to have the music in front of you, unless you're going to invest in a full surround sound setup rear speakers are a waste. Just put the money into the best front speakers you can afford.

reverse situation for me, but long story short. I replaced my two rear speakers and left the two front ones stock. Sounds and pumps fine.

I go with kickass rear speakers (drivers) and mid range front speakers (two way). I depend on the rear speakers to deliver the base, and the front speakers for mid-range and high-range sound. It works quite well and sounds great.

If you aren't too particular abotu speakers ... you can always check out car forums... there are lots of people sellign used OEM speakers there.

otherwise check out whatever's on sale at Cdn Tire, Future Shop or Best Buy.

You could also check out Princess Auto but their selection always changes so its hard to say if they have what you need.
