Missed the boat on this card.
I actually applied back in April and was rejected due to incorrect personal info on my credit file.
I was too lazy to fix it and by the time I did I couldn't sign up anymore.
I did just sign up for the Amex SPG card, so hopefully a non Amex Marriott/SPG card comes available soon.
This merger has really made these cards more attractive.

So the Chase Marriott Visa card is getting axed for all existing card holders on March 15, 2018?
I called Chase this morning and they confirmed that all Marriott CC accounts will be closed on March 15, 2018. As we all expected, there will be no replacement card for it. They mentioned we should get some kind of notification by mail.

My card activation anniversary is on March/10. If this card service is discontinued on March/15 will I be charged the annual fee? I guess that's something I have to wait and see.

After discontinuation will there be any deadline to use the Marriott points before they expire? I am not sure if the points are valid for life.

Why would they charge you an annual fee for a card that they're closing on you 5 days later?

It makes sense not to. But you never know how pre-programmed machines work.

This has nothing to do with the Chase Visa. The Marriott account will still be active after CC cancellation. i think their policy is after 2 years of inactivity, points are lost.

I applied for and received this card a week before they lowered the gate on new applications. Got my 50k welcome bonus points. This was by far the best credit card deal I've ever had. Too bad it's ending but really, I can't complain. The Fido card's benefits for foreign currency purchases are better anyway.

I wonder if they do prorated annual fee refund - my was charged Aug 11 last year.

It's sad that Marriott visa is gone - for a while we are getting a better deal than US cards - 1 Marriott point for C$1 that's like getting 1 point for US$0.78.

Assuming you are a Fido or Rogers customer and/or feel like calling them every year to get transferred 5 times to get a cashback.

Who told you to get transferred 5 times to get the cash back? I have owned Rogers MC since day #1 and have never had a single problem. Just a ONE call and the rep will complete your request within a few seconds. If you don't have time to call in, just create a service request after logging in your Rogers MC account. It will be done within one business day and you will get response from the online rep.

my card was activated on Feb 2, so I'll let you know if I'm charged the annual fee. My hope is there is no fee, and I can collect the free cert in peace.

My wife and mine will expire end of Jan and early Feb. I hope they will still issue the free certificates to our accounts. I'm fine to pay a pro-rated annual fee until March 15, 2018.
