CHEAP HDMI cables - The main thread
With the holidays approaching and big-screen TVs on lots of people's minds, some folks are going to get royally screwed when they decide to buy HDMI cabling for their new purchase.
If you are wondering about HDMI cable pricing (as was I) I decided to post what I found.
If you have more money than brains or have shares in FS/BB, you can buy the Monster Cables and be done with it. If you're a savvy shopper (why else would you be snooping around RFDs then?) you can save hundreds and perhaps send your savings to a charity of your choice. They would need it more than the folks at Monster Cable or their retailers.
By now you're familiar with the CBC technical expose proving there is NO difference between a dollar store cable and the MC products.
So, please feel free to add your comments on this thread.
Monoprice.com seems to be the perpetual leader but they're based in the US. With shipping and possible handling charges it compelled me to look locallly.
YMMV. I live in the Toronto area so selection for pick up is pretty good.
I found some $9.99 HDMI cables at Canada Computers. They are not 1.3 certified but for most people that won't matter. They have 1.3 certified cables (6ft) for about $20. Longer lengths cost slightly more.
Other local computer stores are also selling cables for around the $50 range. That's still too much for 6 - 10 foot cables.
I was told about www.infinitecables.com based in Markham, Ontario. Local pick-up is available.
The HDMI linky: www.infinitecables.com/mon_hdmi.html
I picked up two 1.3b certified 10-foot cables for $12.95. The six footers are $10.95. Non-certified cables are as low at $8.
I know there are other places.
Please post them here for all to enjoy....Last edited by Monsieurmaggot; Nov 26th, 2009 at 12:59 PM.

Help keep the Canadian economy strong. Don't buy overpriced new cars in Canada. Car stealerships in Canada don't value your business & conspire to keep prices artificially high. Before you buy a new car in Canada, do yourself a favour, compare US pricing first! Some RFDers saved TENS of THOUSANDS shopping for vehicles down south. Find out how I saved over $18,000 by importing my vehicle from the US at my personal website: www.monsieurmaggot.com and be sure to read my other rants there too!

Like you said, www.monoprice.com is super extremely cheap. I've dealt with them a few times (and my friend deals with them very often). It's usually the first place any of us turn to for any type of cabling needs. Very good!

1-1st rule of a price error deal is, you do not order more than you needed.
2-2nd rule of a price error is, you DO NOT order more than you needed.
3-If someone phones, emails, orders a ridiculous quantity, the deal is over.
4-1 order per person, or 1 cancellation email per order
5-No whining, no complain when the price is fixed or they do not honor. Only complain if they ship you the wrong order.
6–Fight until you get what you want.

I prefer local stores too as I hate to wait and once you factor in shipping/exchange you're almost at the same price anyways. I pick up 6' HDMI from angelelectronics on Dixie/Matheson for $5 each. Sayal also has 3' optical for $2.99 and 8' for $7.99.

Don't forget the Philips outlet store in Markham. They stock HDMI cables of different lengths (3 / 6 / 12 feet) for $4.99.
281 Hillmount Road
Markham, ON L6C 2S3
(905) 201-4100
Hours are randomly random, so you need to call to check. They tend to sell out but they do restock frequently.
I don't see why everyone here has to orgasm over monoprice whenever an hdmi thread pops up. Buying locally is always better than shipping from out of country.

Superstore also tends to have good prices on HDMI cables. You can usually find 3 feet for $10, and they will be randomly discounted (25% off or more) from time to time.

They sell composite/svideo/component/optical cables as well, also cheap. Almost all of them are in those indestructible plastic bubbles, so you know they are new.
They also have other random electronic goods... i recall seeing surge protectors, shavers, and light bulbs... also they had a small selection of lcd tv's but I am pretty sure those are either returns or open box demo units.
