Go to a local Princes Auto and head straight to the surplus section.
Just two weeks ago I bought a 6ft TOSLINK audio cable for $7.xx .
There was another combo cable (s-video + TOSLINK) for $6.xx, but I opted out for just the regular TOSLINK.

Cheap TOSLINK (optical) cables - the main thread
With apologies to "Monsieurmaggot" and his "Cheap HDMI cable" thread, I have copied his thread and modified it to "Cheap TOSLINK cable" thread. http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/c...thread-818863/
With the holidays approaching and Home Threatre systems on lots of people's minds, some folks are going to get royally screwed when they decide to buy TOSLINK cabling for their new purchase.
If you are wondering about TOSLINK cable pricing (as was I) I decided to post what I found.
If you have more money than brains or have shares in FS/BB, you can buy the Monster Cables and be done with it. If you're a savvy shopper (why else would you be snooping around RFDs then?) you can save hundreds and perhaps send your savings to a charity of your choice. They would need it more than the folks at Monster Cable or their retailers.
So, please feel free to add your comments on this thread.
Monoprice.com seems to be the perpetual leader (e.g. PREMIUM 6FT Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector for $5.49 USD) but they're based in the US. With shipping and possible handling charges, it compelled me to look locally.
Please post details (length, cost, shipping, etc) from local, national and online stores._______________
If my posting is useful, be sure to hit the THANK-YOU button.
Why can I recycle plastic soda bottles but not the plastic cap?
It ain't "green" to idle your car for 10 minutes in the Timmie Hoe's drive-thru to get your caffeine fix. Park and walk inside, instead.

I picked up a couple of 6-footers from Monoprice at around $2.50 apiece.

M-pric-e is absolutely no problem.... Pick USPS... no duty, no taxes, no fees and good quality. I've been told to stick to orders under $25. They have good deals on toner as well.

Try Sayal. www.sayal.com. They always have all sorts of A/V cables including Toslink. They have locations in Toronto, Burlington, Mississauga, Vaughan, and Cambridge.
Sorry, I can't remember exact pricing, but it will be under $10.

For GTA: Active Surplus on Queen St. West (beside Zara, south side of street) generally charges $7 or so for 6ft toslink, a least the last time I checked in late 2008.

Sayal is good for a local source for sure, they have lots of random cables and electronic components.
Just don't expect any customer service. I asked one of their employees for help finding a certain AC/DC wall converter to which he pointed at the aisle and said "whatever is there" ....
