Cheapest D-SLR w/lens

I've currently got a Fujifilm S5100, but I think I want to make the jump to D-SLR. I'm looking for a pretty cheap, but relatively decent one, used or new, it doesn't matter. I'd also like to be able to physically go to a store and buy it, rather than deal with online stuff.

If anyone is interested in a Fuji S5100 w/ wide angle, telephoto and macro lenses, 3 different filters, 256mb xD card, lens cleaning kit, usb cable, software, car charger, lowepro bag, 8 AA Rechargable batteries, battery charger, box, manuals, etc. Let me know with an offer price. (note, this isn't a FS thread, just putting it out there)

Nikon D50/D70s or Canon Rebel XT

D50 is 599 w/o lens and 699 with so I believe it is the cheapest

go to any store, hold on to the camera body and buy whichever felt the most comfortable. Either system is fine despite what anyone tells you.

I'd find the nikon d50 fits nicely for me.. I like how it holds for myself.. but anyways it is all person perfences.. tried the reebal xt also. don't like too much.

anywho.. are there any 3rd party cheaper lens for dslr's ?? rather then buying nikon branded ones? are they all made the same with the same glass ??

anyone know of any 10d's still kicking around for a discount? or even 2nd hand? i've seen what that camera can do and its hella good enough for me.

I didn't believe this until I got into the market for a dSLR. Don't get caught up just reading about and comparing camera specs on the internet. You really need to go out and try them all out. Based on specs and price, the Sony alpha seems amazing and after playing with it in person I agree it's very feature-rich. But in my hands, it feels too small and light so I'd rather trade up on those features for a "lesser" model that feels more substantial.

Funny, I seem to be in the boat with people preferring a bulkier body - meaning a D50 and D80 is out of the picture for me - but a chunkier D70 or Canon 30D feels better. The great thing is that for the consumer, there's much more variety to pick and choose from.

There can be quite a bit of subjective reasoning that goes into your dSLR decision. Good luck with your search!

If you want to save money, I suggest you buy a used camera. Older models will probably give you the best bang for your buck.

As mentioned earlier, the 10D is a great camera that can be found used for a decent price. It has been succeeded by several generations (i.e. the 20D and 30D), so it's market value has dropped considerably. However, don't be fooled into thinking that it's totally inferior to others because it's older. It has excellent image quality, and a very solid and rugged feel. I would suggest the 10D over the (non-XT) rebels.

If you can find a used Nikon D50, that should also be relatively cheap since many people may be moving onto the D70s and the anticipated D80.
