Basic test is $65 or so. Some charge $120 and do additional testing, dilation, etc. The least expensive tend to be the travelling optometrists who have few overheads.

I just checked Walmart at Keele and Lawrence and they charge $80. It was the cheapest I could find so I'm going there. I see an ophthalmologist every year but he is now refusing to issue me a prescription for glasses so I have no choice but to now go to an optometrist and pay for yet another eye exam (that I just had done with the ophthalmologist), for no other reason other than to get the prescription for glasses. I am really annoyed over this.

Doesnt OP have a good private comprehensive health plan ie. via your employer?? Many cover costs of eye exams, glasses, contacts up to a certain dollar limit either annually or bi-annually. If you do... what's the problem?? Besides, you shud be more interested in getting a good optometrist than a cheap price. Start with rateMDs. Look for the top 10 optometrist in your area, THEN ask about pricing. Next.
If the glove don't fit you must acquit! #WINNING

More and more people have no health coverage with employers. I'm one of them. That's becoming a thing of the past.
So that means price is everything.

was looking around to see if there were cheap optometrists.

there is one in richmond hill for $59 although they are booked up for the next week and a bit - so I'll keep looking (would like to get them done earlier)

http://www.opticaleyeworks.ca/

even though they say limited time special on the site I think its been that price for the last couple of years

I think its a little wierd that a regulated health profession is allowed to vary their prices so much (I'm sure that OHIP only allows them to bill a certain amount for the exams they fund)

If memory serves me right they are located in a big plaza in richmond hill and their overall service was excellent. Not too pushy with sales of expensive lenses and frames. And doctor was quite thorough as well.
There is another optometrist in richmond hill around same area that also changed us $59. Not sure why people pay $80-$90 or even more.
