Chemistry Question - Please help!
Hi guys,
Can someone please help me out here.
What is the balanced chemical equation for the oxidation of acetone (to produce CH3COOH + HCOOH) using potassium permanganate KMnO4(aq)?
The equation is probably ionic.
Thanks

did you try taking the square root of it yet and multiplying it by itself?

Actually, I'm not really sure about the products of the reductant in a reaction of a ketone... ><. Damn.
Maybe Manganese Dioxide?_______________

so there are 2 half ionic equations: one is reduction of KMnO4 to manganese dioxide. the other is oxidation of acetone, so its this second one which i cant do...

You mean
MnO4- + C3H6O -> C2H4O2 + CO2H2 doesn't balance?
It looks like it should, somehow...
What's your question anyways? If this is a lab assignment question asking for the equation for the reaction, it's might be looking for MnO4,H+ over the reaction arrow._______________
