Mandarin tour
The only thing I would add is that the tour is in Mandarin per my relatives who took advantage of this amazing Beijing or Shanghai deal. Bit difficult to follow if u only speak basic Cantonese or English unless u bring your own bilingual Mandarin friend as
translator.

All Canadians welcome.
Just read through the earlier 7 pages of posts on this $99 Beijing deal. Deal seems available to all Canadians, not just those that have Asian girlfriends or Caucasians with the last name of Lee. Toronto area seems to have discounted this land package down to FREE previously in case u find $49 Shanghai hotel/food/7 night package "expensive".
Have not been able to find a tour from Vancouver, BC that is in Cantonese for this package. Can't make any sense of Mandarin, unfortunately.

Party true ... if you are chinese, you can still bring other nationalities like caucasian, etc but you have to be there though ... this is what most travel agents told me so good deal for everyone imo.

All Canadaians meaning both Chinese and non-Chinese speaking individuals?
I am english-speaking only Canadian. I speak no french and no other asian language. I have no asian ancestry nor friend.
I want to go on the tour in July with my girlfriend. Can I go? Should I? Is it advisable?
Thanks.

I think this is correct.
My grandparents are on this trip at this moment and they're telling me that it's going very well. IMO the Chinese government wants to encourage Chinese Canadians to come back to their motherland so they can see the improvement the country has made since their departure. They want the visitors to spread patriotism back in Canada once they return.
Oh, and they do allocate (only) 1 hour everyday at a designated shop. My grandparents tell me that it isn't as bad as what people say. Their itinerary is pretty packed so they don't waste too much time taking visitors to the shops.

i did something similar to this a while back. you can pm me if you have any specific questions. its not just for chinese people. the government sponsored one, is quite literally VIP (line bypass, best seats in the house etc).
the trip is worth it if you want to see a lot, in very little time. it's incredibly efficient with the itinerary and stops.
The designated shops aren't too bad. in my experience, there was absolutely no pressure to buy, except at the last shop on the last day... that was bad. otherwise, it was informative (they show you a demo on jade, green tea, silk, etc). just have self control and don't buy anything.
the hotels were great!

Option to choose Cantonese or Mandarin speaking tour. Just make sure you request the correct language.
This is a shopping tour - taking you to places like silk, tea, Chinese medicine etc, jade etc. The tea and silk places sales reps are very aggressive. Learn to just say NO.
For the poster who could not find this tour in Vancouver. Go to Charming Holiday or Nexus Holiday.

Causasian is a physiology type, not nationality. It does not even mean white, Arabs and Indians are also technically caucasian.
The word you're looking for is ethnicity, not nationality. Almost every single person on RFD is Canadian by nationality, nationality refers to which nation you are a citizen of. It might seem stupid, but its ignorant to not know/learn these things.

Can you provide some links for those travel agents?
One travel agent told me that even though I'm asian, I'm not qualified because I'm not Chinese... even if I go with Chinese friends.

One of the agents, Nexus Holidays has a website however, you won't be able to find it on it's website unless you view in Chinese.
To my understanding, one must be Chinese (ethnicity) to go in this trip. I heard that when a non-chinese went with his/her Chinese spouse, the non-Chinese was charged an extra $300 on the spot. YMMV.

I went on this tour and there were actually some white people on this trip. They were from Edmonton. They were on their last day there and they said they really enjoyed it (especially the tea in Hangzhou), so there, its not for chinese people only. It's for anybody holding a Canadian passport. Our tour guide provided to us spoke amazing english and cantonese.

I went to this tour...Last year August? or was it 2 years ago August? LOL
This deal was offered in the States back then so i flew to California for a few days and went to the China for this tour.
Honestly it's a good deal but if you only know english, it's...not bad..
The hotels were pretty good and clean...if i can remember we stayed in a 5 star RAMADA...LOL It was sooo grand.
The food is pretty bad...everyday was basically the same dishes cooked differently..only one of the 8 or 9 cities we visited, the food was okay because it was salted properly. :x
the places they took you for temples/scenery/castles/shows were not bad.
Shopping/free time places/factories. were okay as well. all the factories were pretty much jacked up prices.
factories for tea clay pots, Jade factory, pearl factory...a few more..
for me, it was an OK trip. 7/10 ...for the price.. i would go again if i could wander off myself..but I wouldn't go again if it was the same thing...or mainly because after China, i had a freaking blast in Bangkok Thailand.
BTW, no one was white in my tour group of 50 people, all chinese. there was a bus full of canadians from Toronto but i dont think they had the same deal/funded by the government tour.
