anyone know where you can get a professional custom made one in the GTA. My sister in law is having a wedding next year, and she dosen't want to buy one off the rack (she wants a higher quality one).

Check out the Chinese dress stores in Pacific mall. Some do custom make, some don't, you just need to check from store to store. Good Luck.

Bumping to see if anyone has any current information for these Chinese wedding dresses preferably custom made. Haven't heard good things about custom tailoring at pmall so looking for alternatives. Thanks

There's this one tailor who's pretty popular in custom dress making in Chinese dresses and I think she makes dresses for the Miss Toronto pageants as well. My cousin got her wedding "kwa" done there and her mom and sister got qipao's done by her. I think her name is Alice Ko or something? She used to have an office at Midland/Finch Silverstar Blvd, but I think she's moved since.
She has a website when I googled her. http://aliceko.redto.com/contact.htm
I'm not too sure how the process is, but she's a little on the pricey side, even when my cousin brought her own fabrics from China.
Either way, hope it works out.

Lol, yeah, pretty popular in the Canto-Chinese community, apparently she's "THE" shizznazz, but according to my aunt, she's like "meh, she did an alright job". But i don't know if it's cause she was picky or if there's something else that happened. Granted, I think they were a little short on time (as in my cousin found her kind of close to the wedding) and they didn't have the patterns or something they wanted (which is why they had to get some on their own). *shrug*

LOL =P She's prolly comparing it to the super authentic 100 year old tailor/seamstress in China =P haha I know a lot of older people who are so hard to please like that =P I'm not Chinese though, but I grew up in China/HK so I have witnessed the snobbyness haha I want a Chinese/Indian wedding, love red with the gold. Lol.

A "kwa" is basically a clunkier (imo uglier) version of the qipao that the bride wears when she toasts; it's a two-piece set, a buttoned top and a long skirt so I guess it doens't "look" as nice, but the traditional piece. My cousin persoanlly wanted to just get a qipao done, but her husband's family was a little more traditoinal and semi-insisted on the kwa, so that's what was done. =/

Mrs Stock R had her's custom made at "Cynthia's"? I think in Pacific mall when we got married. Price was more than off the shelf obviously, but Cynthia really worked with her to make sure that the design and fabric was what she wanted and that it fit her exactly. She really worked with us as we live in Ottawa and had to travel to Toronto for checking fabrics, fittings and such.
I think her shop is still around...

Ugh rereading my last post damnuautocorrect. Was CynthIan's good? My friend warns me not to go there because when she was checking it out people were coming in complaining about their orders. So that has me concerned.

I've seen some of their dresses (evening/cocktail party dresses) and they look pretty nice from the store window but I haven't really seen their traditional dresses. Granted, it's just from passing by the store window, they might have pictures or more samples inside. I think they have another storefront at splendid china towers too.
