Well if a Chinese person opens an Italian restaurant that serves only Italian dishes then it's still an Italian restaurant. MiniSO has little to no connection with being Japanese except for their "designer" but while I was in Hong Kong, I read an article that questioned the identity of this "designer".

*Edit: Here's the article http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/04/23/j ... -in-japan/

Does it really matter whether it's Chinese or Japanese, all items are pretty much from China anyways.

It doesn't matter usually, but this company is lying.

These stores will follow the path of Target Canada.

Searched online what kind of merchandise they sell in other countries and at what prices. Found that they sell pretty much the same low-quality stuff offered at Dollarama but with fancier store-brand packaging and priced accordingly. The stores looked neat, though.

At least Dollarama occasionally brings brand-name liquidation stuff.

I actually really like Daiso stuff and I hope miniso will also bring unique things in their stores. I do like Dollarama for their merchandise but I also question the quality. Hopefully miniso will have better stuff.

Well, apparently that was miniso marketing strategy in china: branding itself as Japanese (implying they carry better quality products than competing chinese stores but that's a buyer's misguided inference).

i really like the stuff from Daiso as well from the 2 years i was in Korea. A lot of their stuff is made in Japan and still costs a dollar or 2. Wish it comes to Canada sometime soon.

Daiso is a fun store - I have gone to one each time I go to San Francisco. I am Dallas bound next month and apparently they have a few stores there... so we will be making a visit. I would like to see them come to Toronto.

As for Miniso....I can only go by what I have read and so far it does not sound like its anything great.

I'm dumping this article in this thread because it seems to mainly highlight the fact that Miniso will be a new competitor.
The article also hints at Dollar Tree possibly expanding into Quebec (as Dollar Arbre?)

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/dolla ... 40166.html

However, Dollar Tree itself might actually be in trouble... https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/dolla ... 42197.html
