I just got CIA with home phone and cable internet for $40/month. Phone and Surfing works great and I can download torrents all day without being throttled.

The only issue I am having is with Xbox live I seem to get disconnected fairly often (once every 6 games online).

Anyone else have this problem and find a solution?

So CIA cable internet is unlimited right now? holly smokes

i heard they have very good service in North York

Can you use your own cable modem or you have to buy it from them, if so how much is it(straight buy or rental)?

thanks,

It may not be unlimited or unthrottled much longer. 3web removed all webpages referring to unlimited bandwidth, and are now capping all business users to 60gigs/month.

New residential users are told of a cap, although it is not yet enforced.

They say it is unlimited, then 3 months later slap you with overcharges. In Quebec, they use videotron lines, so their cap (and overcharges is the same as videotron). Only thing is, you know only 3 months AFTER you have used it.

I quit, and am very happy!
NEVER EVER again with this company.

I have been with CIA / #web for about 4 years now .... works fine. I agree that the initial setup was a bit long (10 days or so to correct bandwidth issues) but after that I have been getting great speeds for the past 4 years. I like their service. My two cents ...

Did you get a 3web ip at the time, or did you receive a videotron ip as a customer of 3web

I used 3 web on the west coast about 4 or 5 years ago.

They advertise unlimited bandwidth, but what happen was they use shaw's lines (the west coast cable company, equiivelant of rogers), so after a few months they called me up and said shaw call them on complained and that I had to cut down on my usuage. So the fact they used shaw's equipment meant they were still subject to shaws rules.

It's hard to get a hold of that company. Sometimes you'd wait on hold for 45 minutes and it'd disconnect and you'd have to start all over again. It was very hard to cancel service.

I suppose once it was up and running (and before the called me to lower bandwidth) it ran well enough. I guess because they rent equipment they may be subject to certain rules from the isp they are renting from.

dude truss me one time i was on hold for more then 2 hours. then i was given some automated machine which asked to leave a message. they never called back. after weeks of retying to cancel i finally did but the bastards billed me another month. and get this after i canceled service they kept taking money off my credit card claiming i was making long distance calls when i was no longer their customers. 3 months of fighting after that and i was unable to make a stop payment via the credit card company because i gave them preauthorized consent. in the end to get rid of them i had to cancel my credit card to evade this so called long distance i was using.

NEVER AGAIN.

I've heard that since the new owners took over, customer service has been way better.

I'm with 3web DSL but would be removing my Bell phone soon and it would cost an extra $8/month for dryloop on top of the $30/month. Is there a better dryloop option or is their cable internet not that bad in Toronto. It would cost us $32/month.

My experience with 3web -- after 6 months of excuses, I was still sitting at the following speeds. Canceling was probably the smartest thing I've done all year. Steer clear

Had 3web cable silver for 6 mths(1meg), and then switched to gold cable. Supposed to get 7meg download with gold. Company is OK, customer service has gotten better recently than it used to be. Problem is that the only time I could get close to 7meg was on off peak times. Evenings and weekends caused speed to go down to 1 meg. Sometimes even slower. The silver service was OK most of the time.

I've been using for about a year now. Switched after Rogers implemented their cap system.

No caps and no throttles as of yet. Speeds are fast, though there were a few times before when I would lose my internet, but I found out it wasn't 3webs fault. Rogers was disconnecting my line (physically, I live in an apartment, they screwed around with the wires apparently), they fixed it and now there is no problem whatsoever.

Their customer service actually knows about computers... at least the customer service at around 9pm.

Their customer service has improved significantly, I dare say my recent experiences with them have been way better than those with Rogers.

Speeds are fast - getting 9.7-9.8Mbps download speeds all the time. I think the stuff that people are throwing around right now is just due to their bad reputation. I've yet to have a major problem with CIA.

Your latency to Rogers' equipment is extremely high. It might not be CIA/3Web's issue, rather an issue with Rogers congestion or cable wiring. Best to request a technician visit.
