CIBC Aerogold/Aventura - conversion eligible for bonus points?

Just wondering if anyone here knows the answer to this before I dedicate half an hour on hold with CIBC...can existing Aerogold cards be converted to the new Aventura Visas and still be eligible for the current bonus points offer? I'm someone with a 'broader banking relationship' with CIBC so I'm unlikely to have my card moved to TD, but I am certainly interested in 30,000 points if I can convert cards instead of opening a new one.

No, but there is an easy fix. I had the same question, see below for my "chat" conversation on the CIBC Visa website:

>>
Paula: Thank you for choosing CIBC. My name is Paula, how may I be of assistance to you today?
Paula: Hi, Ben.
Ben: Hi, I'd like to convert my CIBC Visa Aerogold to an Aventura card, will I still be eligable for the 30,000 point bonus?
Paula: Ben, thank you for choosing CIBC for your credit card solutions.
Paula: The current promotion is only available on new applications.
Ben: So I should apply for a new card and then cancel my old one?
Paula: You may wish to consider that if you wish to earn the points.
Ben: ....ok thank you
