According to the terms, CIBC is using Pacific Time to qualify for this offer, so don't buy it at 12:01am EST
I believe Prime Day begins at 3:00am EST, in which case this makes sense.

Got this in email

Hi RainDown,

Those amazing Amazon Prime Day deals just got even more epic. Because on July 15th and 16th, when you spend $100 or more at Amazon, we’ll give you a $10 credit on your next card statement1. All you have to do is check out using your eligible CIBC credit card. It’s as easy as that!

1The offer period begins on July 15th, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. (PT) and ends on July 16th, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (PT). The Offer consists of a one-time $10 CAD statement credit when using an eligible CIBC Credit Card for the Primary Cardholder’s purchase of $100 or more at Amazon.ca during the offer period. Limit of one (1) $10 statement credit per eligible CIBC Credit Card. Multiple purchases totaling $100 or more during the offer period will qualify for this $10 statement credit offer. Your credit card account must be open and in good standing at the time the statement credit is awarded. All Amazon ®, ™ & © are IP of Amazon.ca, Inc. or its affiliates.
This offer applies to the following eligible cards: CIBC Aventura® Visa Infinite*, CIBC Aventura® Visa*, CIBC Aventura® Gold Visa*, CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite*, CIBC Dividend Platinum® Visa*, CIBC Dividend® Visa*, CIBC Dividend® Unlimited™ World Elite® Mastercard®, CIBC Aventura® Visa* Card for Students, CIBC Dividend® Visa* Card for Students, CIBC Aventura® Visa* Card for Business, CIBC bizline® Visa*, CIBC Aventura® Mastercard®, CIBC Aventura® World Mastercard®, CIBC Aventura® World Elite® Mastercard®, CIBC Aventura® VacationGold®, CIBC Select Visa*, CIBC Classic Visa*, CIBC Tim Hortons® Double Double™ Visa*, or CIBC Platinum Visa*.

I don't see why not. There isn't anything in the terms about not using a gift card. I also received this offer and my plan is to buy a gift card first then use the gift card for smaller prime day purchases under $100.

I never received this email and I've been a CIBC Aeroplan Infinite cardholder for at least a decade. Smiling Face With Horns

I did get something from Aeroplan advising 10x the miles if I go to Amazon via the Aeroplan e-store, so there's that. I do like travellling on aeroplan point

So it works for lots of small purchases adding up to 100... I wonder what about S&S? And what if you return later?

So it appears you can buy a $100 amazon gift card because the T&C does not have limitations. Great for people like me who don't need anything at the moment but can grab some stuff later on.

Wouldn't those wanting to buy a $100 giftcard as part of the get a 7.50 amazon promo credit after buying a $100 giftcard promotion have to make another purchase on top of the $100 giftcard to satisfy the "multiple purchases portion"? That's what I'm taking from the terms.

I don’t think so .. Cibc would only see the $100 pmt to amazon

This is what I’m planning on doing , double dip
