I usually buy it through cc and they've always been able to refund them(most of the time, I just choose a different showing) but with the GC the clerk said she wasn't able to do it and put the amount back on the cc.
Uh, why are you needing to get refunds so often?

Bought $120 instore and got 4 gift packs. You're allowed to load it all onto one card and they'll allow separate transactions as well.

For those using the scene visa card, remember it's max 300 points per transaction and 600 points per day.
That's $60 per transaction and max $120 per day for 5x scene points. Anything extra and you don't get points.
I bought 5 $30 gift card. And paid $150 together and Got 750 scene points

Sun-Thurs only? Dang.
Always been Sunday to Thursday. They changed it about 3-4 years ago

One common reason would be if you're the type of person to show up late and there's no good seats left (for non-assigned seating).

hrm interesting, says 600 daily max under terms and conditions for the scene visa. I need 480 worth in gift cards, wonder if i should risk buying everything at once.

I have scene visa for last 5 years and when i got the card i remember that daily limit was 750 points.

Thats why i bought $150 gift card only. But i had to use my credit card to buy the ticket on the same day. Which was another $22. So for that day i got total of 860 points.

Its YMMV. So for $480 gift card i wont take a risk. As you will loose lots of points

Well, that's an easy fix isn't it? Haha.

And he/she should have an idea of whether it will be busy or not - i.e. he/she mentioned only seats at the front for Fate and The Furious (well, it's a new release and is popular, so expect it to be busy and don't even bother purchasing tickets for a show that you're arriving just 10 minutes before show time). Whereas something that's been out 2-3 weeks or is not really a blockbuster, then you could be fine doing that.

Of course - but when one is used to always being able to get a refund, why bother fixing it? :)

Exactly ;) but really, sometimes shit happens and you or your friends run late.

Because
1. Being late consistently is bad and you will lose friends.
2. Why do it twice if you can do it in one shot?
3. It is a hassle, for both you and Cineplex.
If I buy something that is not in deep discounted, my father will punish me; everyone will laugh at me. I will be the strange kid who doesn't fit in.

When you're asked why you're late at work, do you answer "shit happens"?

Of course, this is a completely false equivalence.
