Is Civic holiday a public holiday?

It is not a statutory holiday, but more of a implied and accepted holiday by most employers. However, if your boss requires you to work, well.. you're SOOL.

edit: I also believe you don't get holiday pay if you work on Civic holiday =\

if you're working that day, be sure he's paying you 1.5x for being there and 1x for stat.

altogether 2.5x for that day.

I remember hearing that you should get a certain number of holidays per year.. and now with family day I heard that a lot of companies give 1 or the other to their employees.. that is, if you get family day off in February then you won't get Civic Holiday off and vice versa.. some companies do give both holidays..

i work part time and my gm told me that we'll get 1.5 pay

Yep, just today... and i've made plan to get out of town already.

I don't think we are eligible for 1.5 pay right?

Okay. So to reiterate:

Employer does not HAVE to give you day off + pay.
Employer does not HAVE to give you Holiday pay (1.5), but if he does kudos to him.

It varies by province in Canada some province are holiday some are not
