Here's an interesting article from the NY Times on child restraints.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/03/autom ... .html?_r=1

If you have a consumer reports subscription, you can see their full results: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2014 ... /index.htm

Summary of the consumer reports test for those of use who don't have a sub:

The 13 infant seats that earned the top score of best are:

Britax B-Safe
Chicco KeyFit
Chicco KeyFit 30
Cybex Aton 2
Cosco Comfy Carry
Evenflo Secure Ride 35
Graco SnugRide 30 (Classic Connect)
Maxi-Cosi Mico
Safety 1st Comfy Carry Elite
Safety 1st Comfy Carry Elite Plus
Safety 1st onBoard35 Air
The First Years Contigo
The First Years Via I470
For boosters, price doesn't matter. A $25 booster can be just as good as a $370 one. My $400 Diono Rainier is only "good". The Radian RXT wasn't rated for whatever reason.

My almost 8 year old cannot use the seat at all now. Her shoulders are over the top slots, and is only 47lbs. Min booster weight is 50lbs. Cannot use the seat as a booster or as a harnessed seat.
My 79lb niece cannot use it as a booster as her seated shoulder height is well over the booster guide. She still requires a booster in move vehicles as she does not 5-step.

The radian is a good car seat, but it is very short lived as a booster and with the min weight at 50lbs, some kids cannot use it as a booster at all. Expect to buy a booster seat after they have outgrown the harness on the radian.
thanks for the user experience. will make sure to keep an eye out for a good booster

What does 5-step mean?

I think infant seats are in a different category than the car seats we are talking about in this thread

Just proving you a point that the most expensive seat does not mean it is the safest...get over yourself!

My child's life is worth more than the $200 difference.

I hope your child continues to stay safe.

It's funny how you keep arguing for a lower quality seat. Perhaps you'll see the difference when you can afford the Foonf. I have both side by side and it's really not hard to tell which one is better and more sturdy.

Radian =/= low quality!
Also quality does not necessary mean better protection or in your case, the more expensive it is, the safer it is!

Didn't you say you have both the RXT and Clek? By this reasoning shouldn't you have Two Cleks?

Definitely would if it was being used more than 2-3x a month. I stated earlier that the Foonf is the heaviest seat on the market, so it wouldn't make sense to have it as a portable one that follows the kid :) .

But isn't your kids life worth more than a few sore muscles? You're fortunate enough to have the money to buy the seat but not the strength to carry it around, shame you can't buy that...

A Diono (Radian/Pacifia/Olympia/Rainier) with angle adjuster becomes one of the most compact front to back seats.

I've just posted a deal regarding Diono Rainier which is the latest model of Radian. With this deal you can get it for $289 plus vat.which is a very good price tag for this car seat and I've done extensive search about the car seats and settled with Diono Rainier which seems to be the best and the most preferred pay the parents. Hope it helps :)

I like this article the best personally:

I did not know about this test. Thanks.

Since the topic of car seat test results came up (along with the statistical meaning of the results)

http://www.ted.com/talks/steven_levitt_ ... en#t-72548

Note: no car seat scores just as well as a good car seat and are both way under the 1000 limit.

Still doent say whether the clek is a better seat but gives you some food for thought.

Now we can wonder how much of that 10% variance in injury can be reduced based on car seat selection.

Unrelated to this thread of arguing over seats -- but we bought a small hatch for our nanny today and I need to buy another car seat.

Our own SUV has a foonf -- is the fllo on sale anywhere? I dont think a foonf will fit a small hatch.
