CMA Entrance Exam; June 2009. Who's Writing?
Hi Everyone,
I am planning on writing the June 2009 CMA Entrance Exam. I am just curious to see who else is doing the same. I am planning on taking the prep program at the Accounting Centre(TAC).
Also, I've heard many positive things about Dorothy Timmermans at TAC. Does she teach all the courses in the prep program? How can I ensure I get in to her classes?

I wrote the exam this past October. I had also heard good things about TAC, so I emailed Dorothy to enquire about the process for enrolment. She emailed me back saying that she wasn't offering the prep course due to changes that were recently made to the format of the CMA Entrance Exam. So I ended up just doing the prep course offered through the CMA.
It's wasn't that bad... at the end of the day, it's really about how well you can study and comprehend the material on your own.
I would try emailing her just to make sure that the course is being offered. It's better to know early so that you can know whether you're going forward with the CMA prep course.

I know this isn't related to the topic at hand, but does anyone know what happens when you fail a course required for the CMA advanced standing? The requirements say you need at least 60% or C. I failed a course, but at my school, SFU, the highest mark is taken when you retake a course. Should I be worried?

It should be fine as long as you retake it and get the 60% minimum mark you need. There isn't any penalties regarding repeated courses.

Thanks. I called CMA to confirm, and you are correct.
Quite a relief for me =/

I plan on writing the EE this coming June. Cross my fingers I pass round 2 of the accelerated program though.
Just a question for those that have written, was the material tested very similar to the style of the accelerated program? Difficulty wise and question styles?

The questions on the EE are a lot more difficult than those you go through during the AP.
If you take the Prep Course after passing the AP, you'll receive two mock exams. Those are a good indication of what the EE will be like, so mastering the material in the mocks and working on your SPEED is essential to passing.
Most people find that they run out of time during the EE and end up filling out the circles on the scantron sheet like crazy as the final minutes start ticking down and they come to realize how much time they've wasted. This will obviously lead to a lot of errors.
Lastly... caution on the soft topic questions. I have absolutely no idea how to suggest studying for those because even after you've studied it all (IT, HR, Internal Controls, Risk Mgmt), the questions are still complicated with very ambiguous answers.

I'm in the Bridging Program (Accelerated Program) now and will be writing in June 09. I wish there wasn't such a big layoff between the end of classes (April) and the exam in June. I think that it would have been easier if it was still fresh in my mind, but I guess it would be more difficult for others who are finishing their degree to try to cram for what is a very long and comprehensive exam.
For anyone taking the Bridging Program, do you have your marks from the second exam? We received the first exam marks much quicker so I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.

Yeah I got my mark on the 15th, much higher than my Exam 1, thank god!
btw, I'll be writing the EE in June 09. I've heard from several sources now that studying for the soft topics is almost useless. Its worth reading the stuff over again, but don't waste your time doing anymore than that.

which prep program
Which prep program is better? The one offered by CMA Ontario or the one from the Accounting Centre. (TAC)

CMA Entrance Eaxms 2009
Hi All,
I am currently in the CMA AP program and just finished my 3rd Test-Module 3 (Corp Finance & MGT ACC).
There's been an email out about the June 2009 Entrance exam. Dorothy is now teaching the CMA Ontario Prep course. She is not having her own prep course anymore, she has collaborated with the CMA Institute now.
Go check the CMA Ontario website for the June 2009 Entrance Exam. It has Dorothy mentioned in the cover. Here's the link below to the flyer.

This is pretty much spot on.
I completed the AP by correspondence last April and then wrote the EE in June (got 86%). I didn't participate in the exam prep course because I felt I had enough to practice with.
I found the AP easier because much of the AP exams are case questions which are pretty easy to predict, while on the EE the questions are all multiple choice. With the multiple choice questions the exam writers know where you're most likely to make mistakes and purposely include incorrect answers that students who don't completely know their material will choose.
The two practice exams offered by CMA Canada were a joke compared to the actual EE. I could complete the practice exams in just under 3 hours, but I took every last second on exam day.

I am currently in the AP program right now, will finish up this coming April 2009. I am writing the June Entrance exam for sure this year 2009.
What is your study strategy for the June EE that you did last year in 2008 since you didn't do the prep course?
I find that I always run out of time on the CMA AP program tests and barely get a chance to get to do the M/C section. I am really nervous and want to be fully ready for the June EE. How can I study well to pass?

Any idea when the study guide for 2009 goes up on the CMA website? Also, is it sufficient preparation for the Entrance Exam?
