Cma - ima
So, I am not sure if this has been discussed before or if someone has been in similar scenario. Most accounting positions reQuire experience or most degree and unless you want to progress with designation people opt for it. I was having discussion with colleague who was thinking bout following the US CMA and not the canadain one. His point put forward was that, employers want a designation and it doesnt matter from where. For instance they would look like oh he is a CMA rather than declining me s its not recognised over here.. Thoughts.

You've raised this before:

Anyway, your co-worker is wrong. Many Canadian companies will specify that they seek "Canadian" designations.
With regards to the CMA, when doing a reference check, they'll do it with the CMA that is known to Canadians. If your co-worker tried to use the letters and pass it off as an example of "A CMA is a CMA" then he'll get caught.

why not do the Canadian CMA if your gonna stay in Canada and the US one of your gonna be in the US.
I think its that simple. If your not sure I would stick with Canada CMA since your already here and more likely than not to be staying here.

Ima cma
I am Canadian and have the IMA CMA designation. I state on my resume that I am a CMA certified by IMA.
Why should someone try to pretend to be a Canadian CMA??
I work for a Canadian subsidiary of a US company, they actually prefer a US certification.
I chose the IMA CMA because I wanted to understand US GAAP which is something that is not taught in any Canadian designation
program. I am also a CGA but find the IMA CMA more useful for my job as cost accountant/budget analyst.
