Most lenders use a combinaton of both, BNS is no exception. It truly is a 50/50 proposition. But, your mortgage documents will clearly state which was used.
I assume they are ignoring your request because they assume you are preparing to move your mortgage. Regardless, they have no right to do so. Call again and if the kid who answers your call won't help, demand to speak to their manager immediately.

CMHC or GE?
I have mortgage with scotiabank and forgot which one sold me the mortgage insurance. Surprisingly, the bank refused to tell me which one.
Does anybody happen to know the answer? TIA.

My mortgage documents only specify that there is a Mortgage Default Insurance but it doesn't say who provided this insurance.

I went GE a few years back. I guess they have a website where you can get discounts on various things if you go with them. You get your login after you sign off on the mortgate.
Having said that I haven't been on their site since after I got my mortgage.
