How often do you consume something like that?

I don't think there's any good evidence that shows that collagen supplements make any difference to hair or skin.

So do I! And don't take collagen.

No way to conclude that collagen makes any difference to how you look.

You can thank your genetics for that

I took powdered collagen for a few weeks and my hair started falling out. Was the expensive brand too - being wasted now, won't take anymore.

Waste of money, my wife has been taking it daily for the past 2 months, and didn't notice much difference.
She used it for her hair and nails. Maybe more suitable for older folks?

This bugs me.

Broth = Soup made with meat.
Bone (based liquid) = Stock
Bone broth = A stupid way to describe a stock.

Then again... I also subscribe to the "every word you add, adds $3 to the price" so that kind of makes sense.

Bone broth has zero advantage over other foods. Collagen, like protein, is broken down into amino acids before the body 'uses' them.

For skin, you want primarily type 1 hydrolyzed collagen. For Joints, type 2.

In either case you are looking for a peptide size of less that 5000 daltons. Bigger than this, and the peptides will be mostly broken down into amino acids prior to absorbtion into the bloodstream. (For comparison, the unhydrolyzed collagen in bone broth is >300,000 daltons)

Quality products will have type and size listed on the lable.

I had a medical Dr. say the exact same thing to me once. I replied, "so you wouldn't have an issue with eating prions, or ricin?" (both pure proteins)

I could see the light come on. He understood paracellular transport was a thing, as a function of pharmacological availability. But he had never really considered its implications on nutrition.
