Some tips for OP to save on premium:

1) Forego optional coverages like Collision and Comprehensive, or if you want those coverages, get a higher deductible.
2) If the insurer offers UBI (usage based insurance), sign up and get 5-15% discount
3) Get tenant insurance. This will trigger multi product discount with most insurers. That's another 10-15% off your auto premium.

Given your age you will probably have more luck with direct writers (TD, Belairdirect, etc) so it's a good idea to go get a quote from them first.

you're going to pay minimum of $400/month and if you live in brampton it'll probably be $1,200 month
if you live in scarborough probably $700/month

with that said, RBC insurance is the most competitive for new drivers along with TD meloche monex.
