Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch explains her stance on "Canadian values"

Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch roasted on social media for ‘bizarre’ Canadian Values video

The Conservative leadership race is taking an unusual turn with the release of a video that was supposed to humanize candidate Kellie Leitch. It's getting attention for all the wrong reasons and comes as the leadership hopefuls gather for a debate in Edmonton. Mike Le Couteur reports.

Toronto Star commentator Paul Wells explained his reluctance to tweet the video at all.

Anyone read the tweets that 'roasted' her?

If you have to ask yourself "why would anyone make this video?" chances are the reasons you find it funny or weird are intentional. O'Leary and Leitch dominated coverage on a day when the leadership contenders were getting together to debate the issues. I would have never watched her video but ended up watching most of it through clips on various social media sites.

yes ... it is ‘bizarre’ ... but for me its because her "voice" ... its hard to concentrate on the massage (which make sense and people would not criticize as much if it was JT giving it ... )

MP Deepak Obhrai says his Conservative leadership rival is creating an American-style environment that could get immigrants killed.
http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/03/06 ... 89344.html

“Ms. Leitch is playing divisive politics, and the consequences can be seen in America, where in the last two weeks three innocent people were shot or killed, because they were seen as immigrants,” said Obhrai, who is of South Asian descent and immigrated to Canada from Tanzania in 1977.

IMO muslims should be more offended by Obhrai than Leitch in this instance, as he seems to be implying that he believes muslims will be more likely to hold regressive views on gender equality.

Exactly!

By saying that these questions target muslim people are they not admitting that there are some deep problems with islam? Or is viewing women as lesser than men ok now in progressive circles?

What is her stance on TFSA contribution room ?
Harper made it 10000 but Justin made it 5500. The main reason Justin did not get my vote.

Eh, not so much. Conservatives share a lot of the same values, whether they be christians or foreign muslims. The conservative party is really just looking to bar conservatives from entering the country. Just look at the questions she's proposing.

Are men and woman equal, and entitled to equal protection under the law?
I'd like the conservative party's answer to this. Why is female genital mutilation banned and demonized while male genital mutilation is allowed to occur every day and has protections under religious laws? Why did the state run an advertising campaign that painted men (and only men) as rapists and sexual harassers? Why is the insurance industry allowed to discriminate based on sex, but nobody else is?

Do you recognize that to have a good life in Canada you will need to work hard to provide for yourself and your family, and that you can't expect to have things you want given to you?
Or are you going to complain about people 'stealing your job' because they work hard?
Could HAVE, not could OF. What does 'could of' even mean?

I think this issue is going to bite the Liberals just like the islamophobia motion has been biting Conservatives. You can't say that expecting immigrants to believe that women are equal is xenophobic or racist while also saying that you're a feminist. This issue will carve away at the self proclaimed feminist and potentially pry loose a group of women voters that the Conservatives didn't reach in the last election.

This whole Kellie Leitch thing feels more and more like Conservative party strategy in action.

Why? Because her position on this screening is favored by 2/3 of Canadians including 87% of Conservative supporters, 57% of Liberals and 59% of Dippers?

It's amusing that the lefties on here are so outraged at this yet almost 60% of 'like-minded' lefties are for it? What gives?
