I loved the blades UI from the early years of the 360 and I bet it'd be a hit if they brought it back. It was such a simple interface that was efficient and snappy with that awesome satisfying sound when you scroll through them "whu whu whu whu"

LOL I know everyone LOVED blades, but how much of that is nostalgia? It's like going back to watching old episodes of Transformers or Thundercats and realizing what an incomprehensible mess it was vs what your remembered it to be.

These days, I often have everything I need using the Guide button – playing a game/app, partying up with friends, recording a clip, even streaming (if I wanted to do that) are all in Guide – and the improvements they are making to that should make it even easier to navigate now that they've made that menu horizontal. Glad they're allowing us to customize the home screen, as it's a lot of extraneous fluff.

The worst part about Blades is that you were forced to upgrade to the new UI so even if you wanted to keep Blades you couldn't! It's your console you should be allowed to use whichever UI you want. Seems almost anti-consumer. When it comes down to it there just wasn't any room for ads and that's what it comes down to.

I don't have a ton of experience with the X1 UI but I didn't like what the 360 UI became towards the end of its lifespan. It was soooooo slow and filled with unnecessary crap that had nothing to do with the games I was playing. I would've preferred to go back to the blades over that over that 2010-2013 360 UI.

Looks like this new X1 horizontal UI is taking notes from the current PS4 UI. It was kind of a mess by default too but once you organize everything into folders (which apparently was a new feature when I got it) it's pretty simple and fast.

Ya at one point I remember turning on my 360 and the main startup screen was just filled with ads for services and franchises I never played or had any interest in. It was a huge step back from the sleek straight to the point look of the Blades and was so so slow on top of that

New details on the next iteration of Xbox One's dashboard. By my count, this seems like the third major revision.. the first version sucked, they improved upon it, then made improvements to the guide, and I hope the new additions can allow us to make a more clutter-free, easy experience.

No details on the updated avatars though...

The new UI is getting absolutely decimated on the Xbox One subreddits. I've checked it out and I see why now. Just so many backwards steps and regressions in interface. Adding more clicks to do things, taking away half of the user pins, etc. The worst part is that they promised no new ads in progressive versions of the interface but blatantly broke the promise. Same crap from the 360 era, every update added more "suggested" content to the interface and made my UI less about sorting and playing my own content.

Anyways it's total dreck and they need to go back to the drawing board on it.

The XBone Guide was atrocious when it first came out compared to PS4's, especially because at the time, MS was experimenting with the whole "snapping" of apps to the side of the screen (think of how you would snap an application window to the side on a PC/Mac desktop)... except nobody really wanted those apps to take up valuable real estate to multitask on a gaming console.

The current iteration pulls up the guide on the side when you press the Xbox button, and has various tabs vertically - things like games, achievements, friends, party, streaming, settings – but you only have control over it using the analog stick or dpad so it's still rather slow and clunky to navigate. Now that they've made it a horizontal menu, you get extra button functionality so that I can quickly use LB/RB shoulder buttons to navigate the tabs, and then use the dpad to select options within those tabs.

I got rid of my PS4 a while back, but I thought their interface wasn't the greatest either - although at the onset, it was better than XBone's.

Damn, that's unfortunate... I haven't tried it yet, but hopefully my console is part of the wave of Xbones that get the new UI. For me, the guide is the most important part, and I'm hopeful that it improves. I thought the home/community/store stuff was super annoying in all iterations, and I'm not hopeful that they'll make it any more appealing, although the option to minimize a lot of that stuff is what I want. Plus, the community section being turned into tiles instead of a vertical newsfeed seems interesting, even though I barely actually use that section.

Yeah I'm just super tired of companies trying to monetize the home screen. All I want from home is a list of my recently played games, my favorites and a link to important areas. I don't want suggested clubs. I don't want suggested followers. I don't want Social. All of those things are easy to find if I want them. I just want my damned games and my friends list. Give me a link to the store but do not try to make the home screen itself into a store. Why is this so much to ask?

I've finally got the PS4 interface down to one unremovable tile and customized the way I like it. I was relatively happy with the previous Xbox UI, the only issue with it was speed and they fixed that but broke everything else. The constant creep of ads into the Xbox interface over time is very annoying. I already pay for Xbox Live, enough already.

Get off my lawn :)

The 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI is outselling the PS4 version despite being far less technologically advanced.

lmao wasn't this supposed to be launch title for Xbox One X?
I suppose MS needs to release any exclusive they can at this point but this game will just further perpetuate that burly muscle and guns bro game archetype that the Xbox brand desperately needs to break free from if it's ever going to be relevant again. Maybe this game will be surprisingly amazing but considering the first two games I highly doubt it

This is the first time I'm ever looking at recent gameplay of this game. What do you guys make of this gameplay footage from June?

I'm super glad they delayed it, honestly it looked pretty mediocre and I'm tired of Microsoft releasing half finished games at launch. Halo wars 2, Recore, and MCC could have all benefited from much more time in the oven.

On a related note, what a terrible year for MS publishing. I think I count 3 games launching this year unless I missed something and none of them are/were really anything to get really excited about.

On the flip side if there indeed a new halo, 2018 is gonna be a real nice year for xbox.

I think 2017 is going to be about the number of games patched for Xbox One X...it's a lost cause...
