Contact Lenses: Acuvue-2 or Focus Dailies?

I'm about to buy some contact lenses and have been using focus dailies for a little while now. I enjoy using them becuase they breath more and feel so light. I use to buy FOCUS MONTHLY, but after wearing them for an hour my eyes become very irritated. I notice alot of people purchase acuvue-2 (good for 2 weeks) but i'm wonder if anyone has purchased these? Any reviews?

The cost is signifcantly less if I choose Acuvue-2's, but I don't want to have the same probem as I did before with the Focus monthly. I couldn't even wear them. I had to throw them out because they killed my eyes so quickly. That's why i'm questioning if the Acuvue-2 are a better alternative?

I hope to get a trial pair, but would like feedback from those who wear contacts

I suggest trying the acuvue oasys contacts. I've been using these for about a year now and am quite happy with them (you can sleep with them if you want, but I don't). Very comfortable lens, try a pair if you can.

Funny.. I've only tried Acuvue Advance and I've had a few problems of a tiny piece breaking off along the edge.

I've had no serious problems with these Acuvues though... have even worn them 2-3 days straight on some occaisions (camping).

it doesnt matter if acuvue2 fit great for other ppl, if it doesnt fit your eyes, it doesnt matter does it

everyone's eye is different obviously...

i used acuvue advance cause i was told oh its great...but it doesnt work for me, i had to use acuvue oasys and pay the premium but it fits great, i dont feel it and can wear it a full day

so you know just try different brands and see how they fit your eye, not how they fit the general population

Personally I wear Acuvue-2 all day from moment I wake up till I sleep. But again each eye is different.

No need to use eye-drops or anything, which I've been told are not good for your eyes in the first place, as they supposedly eliminate the first layer of cells to eliminate the "redness"? Can someone confirm this if true or not, thats what some people have told me.

The Focus dailies broke onto 6 pieces the first time but bigger pieces so I got all of them out by myself but I saw the doctor to be on the safe side but it got infected anyway. It broke as I was blinking after I just put it in. Then it broke into about 5 pieces the second time in the middle of workand there was a tiny tiny piece stuck in my eye and I was at the hospital. It took 2 hours to find that small piece. I felt it in my eye but they could not find it. I called them and they said that it was probably my eyes were not suited for the lenses or I didn't take care of them properly.

I never used them again. I've have no problems with Acuvue

its not

the lenses werent designed for long term use

it may not cause irritation but im pretty sure there are gonna be some damage to the eye itself later in the years

i rather not save a few dollars and pop in fresh ones every 2 weeks

eye surgery cost more than ~$5 each bi-week...just think of it as lunch money spent

maybe if you wore the bi-weekly lenses an hour or so a day can you extend it that long but 2 months is pushing it...

i've read ppl using dailies for 30 days...either they clean it very well and dont damage the lense or they just wear it to save money

I have Acuvue2 as well and I too used my first pair for 2 months. In fact the contacts still felt nothing wrong, but I thought I'll just switch to new ones, just in case.

I must admit, the Oasis is really good but it's like $365 for a year supply.

I have tried both - I only use them when I play hockey.

Acuvue-2 - very good lens and very strong.

Focus Dailies - very thin and tears quite easily but very comfortable.

Having said that I actually switched from Acuvues to Dailies because I found the Dailies to be much more comfortable.

The Acuvue 2's are old by now. Granted, they're comfortable and all (I wore them for 5 years -- 2000-2005), but there may be better options for you out there. Which isn't to say they wouldn't be great for you.

If you really want to choose between the two, there's several things you can do. One is to ask your optometrist if they have some sort of "lens trial" fee. Mine did (was around $20, I believe), but they guarantee that you'll end up with a lens you love. After trying out about 5 different pairs (I kid you not) over 3 weeks, I finally settled on a lens that gave the best performance/comfort combination. If you're only interested in trying out the Acuvue2's, they might even do it for free.

Alternatively, you can go to www.acuvue.com and request a free trial pair to compare them to the Focus Dailies.

Most optometrists' places will also credit you for your unused contacts if you later change your mind.

One other thing to keep in mind: you alone can decide how the lenses are for you. Different lenses appeal to different people, and you may not get the results you're looking for if you choose by popularity.
