Never heard of the cooler you mentioned, but you could look at OCZ vendetta 2, and CM Hyper 212+. They're both under $40 and perform really well.

Contemplating move back to air ....
Hey there,
Well as much as I love this domino cooler, I've been thinking of jumping back to a air based heatpipe cooler.
I don't want a $40+ solution as some of you's out there have, but I was wondering what those of you out there thought of the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer 4 cooler then as its sub $40 & if I remember reading on here & otherwise they are fairly up there for efficency.

Not to bring you slightly off topic but there IS the Corsair H50 which is under $100 and seems like a decent liquid cooling system. Just a fan, radiator, pump, tubes and a heatsink.

i don't see why you care about it being under 40$, when your coolit is more expensive. Any reason you want to switch back? Have you looked at the thermalright u120?

I'm mainly trying to move away from fan noise as much as possible which is why I was thinking of a dhp solution. I had a scythe ninja rev b before & that was a major pita to mount & what not.

For years I've been using the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. With a single fan, it's quiet and high performing. I'm using it with dual fans (push-pull config) but that may be a little too noisy for you.
For a cheap, high performance cooler, I think the S1283 is king. I've deployed 2 of those in the household at $35 each and they perform extremely well. I don't know about this suspicious Sunbeam company._______________

I'm using a sunbeam core contact freezer atm, without the fan, it does heat up quite a bit, but the fan isn't that noisy if you keep it at low settting (it comes with a fan controller), it got rubber feet on it, so it won't really rattle against the aluminium fins of the heatsink. It does perform a lot better then stock AMD heatsink, and it does better then OCZ vendetta for sure(my old hsf)
Only thing that might be a bit irritating is the position of the fan, you might end up covering some of your Dimm slots, it's position well above your avg RAM, but if you have those RAM with high fin heatspreader, like OCZ reapers. Corsair DHXs, etc, you'll be limited to using only 2 dimm slots
I read the reviews as well, and from what most of them say, the sunbeam does perform slightly better then the Xigmatek. I got my sunbeam for $37, the Xigmatek S1283 been going for around $25 After Rebate. Personally, I won't had mind the minor performance decrease for $10 saving.Last edited by Brewmeanie; Nov 4th, 2009 at 10:17 PM.
