Read here if you haven't already. Then read the next 2 or 3 pages of replies.
There's plenty wrong. We can't stop you, but we can keep b!tching about it and if we educate people enough about it, then people may actually change their habits gradually over time - and perhaps the Newbies will never pick up the habit. Someday all the Oldtimers will expire and the younger generation will rule MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Rome wasn't built in a day!_______________

Ok, I will
. The problem I see is that if someone asks a question or makes a remark about a contest that post may be buried by "thankses" and therefore ignored. For example, I like to know if someone thinks that a contest looks suspicious. Or maybe I could answer a question, but I have to see it first.
Btw, I like this forum, it's friendly and I hope it stays that way.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it the way Mark & almost everyone else, including myself, here does it.
There is nothing to discuss on 99.9% of the contests posted here. This thread you are currently reading is the place for any meaningful discussions. All the regulars read this thread religiously so this is where important discussions will be most effectively seen.
As for having to wade through pages of Thank yous to get a new code or whatever: These threads are always in the other category. The OPers around here are usually really good about updating their OP with the new codes or whatever & I don't have a problem with having to check a few threads(in the other category)to get updates if I want them.
You act like you have to go back to every thread to see if there is discussion happening. There is no discussion. What could you possibly discuss in a one entry only contest? You've already entered, end of discussion. If there is something that important, like a mistake, bring it here that way it will most definitely be seen by everyone not just those who go back to each thread for updates.
As for your condescending attitude about this, I think we could live without that. Did you really think you had to point out how to organize the contest page according to when the thread was started with step by step instructions to Vilmark or anyone else here? Really????
Get off your high horse & give us some meaninful reason that this should be changed other than you don't like it.
The poll last year lost so get over it.
BTW you're the same poster who seemed upset that some thought that you were putting too much info into your thread titles & even asked how we all felt about it. From what I remember most were fine with how you were posting your contests. Maybe you should change the way you post your contests to appease the few that don't like it just like you are trying to here._______________
If you can't find anyone else to blame
.....You're just not looking hard enough.

Eeek! Everyone grab your helmets....
So, ill speak up. I do agree with just using the thanks button but ronin it's the culture here. Trust me. You gotta post it and forget it. I just bookmark the threads I want to save in a folder and never look back at the rest. Its really not that big a deal, isn't it?
If theres a technicality, People should be reading the full rules anyway. If you take it that personal you're gonna burn out.
Mark I think it would be easier for you to open a personal account. Imagine all the unliking you'd have to do!Last edited by alpen; Feb 8th, 2012 at 10:58 PM.

So has anyone else been having Facebook issues? All of a sudden, starting last week I get email notification for everything my friends do. I've tried unclicking all notifications but it still keeps on coming.
And my twitter account was full of porno followers this morning, like 10-15 Ugh! I had to change my settings to private tweeting which I think will disqualify me from some entries._______________

You can choose take it personally if you want. Which seems a bit silly considering that this is RFD.
BTW - de-"friending" me on Facebook? LOL - that's soooooo High School.
Why don't you start from the beginning (no, not The Big Bang - I mean my original rant post) and follow from there. They have spoken up, but you obviously haven't been paying attention.
And as you should be quite aware by now, for every person who's willing to voice an opinion in a public forum, there are loads more who agree but aren't willing to put themselves into the firing line._______________

"Exactamundo", as The Fonz would say. I occasionally post questions in various contest threads when I see a problem of some sort (whether with the post itself, or with the contest) - more often than not, it gets ignored, which is probably due to one or both of the following:
- no one cares or can be bothered to reply, or
- no one notices because no one can be bothered to monitor the thread due to all the spam
Agreed, it's the culture but that doesn't mean I can't try to change it. If people don't like what I have to say, then they can choose to ignore me. But they can't shut me up.
Re: bookmarking - that's fine, I don't follow threads anyways where I'm simply a contest enterer (my excel spreadsheet contains all the info I need). Please refer to my original "rant post" for my reasons why I think it is a big deal, but these are the main ones:- being forced to wade through a few pages of replies just to get to a UPC, PIN, or other contest code
- as mentioned in my reply to alpen (right above my reply to you), it doesn't help when I'm trying to monitor my started threads for problems

Last I checked, this is a public forum, not a private one. If you don't like what I have to say, then ignore me.
And who's to say that this is "your" home and not equally (if not moreso) "mine"? Certainly I've been on RFD longer than you, and I have a more extensive posting history ....
And if you're referring to your "home" as specifically Contests Forum, keep in mind that change is driven by the new blood .... while I respect what's been done here, it doesn't mean I should blindly follow existing practice just because that's the way it's always been done.Last edited by ronin1701; Feb 9th, 2012 at 09:13 AM.

Seems to me that this thread is more for meta-discussions like what we're having right now, while the proper place to discuss thread-specific issues is in the specific thread. I mean, I wouldn't go to address the House of Commons if I had an issue with my T1 filing, I'd call someone at CRA. *shrug*
And actually, I don't go back to every thread to see if there's a discussion, what I used to do was subscribe to RFD email notifications so I'd know if someone did post an issue.
Here's a good example refuting everything that you just said.
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/shopp...-12-a-1137929/
I'll take a page out of Deal_Princess' book and ask "who's we"?
Given that I received a PM complaining about thread bumping due to my choice not to post the various cities' NHL Awards contests in a consolidated thread, well you gotta wonder if the folks around here do know how to re-sort threads.
Get off your high horse and give us some meaningful reason why this shouldn't be changed other than that you DO like it.
There's nothing in the forum rules that say you can't bring it up again just because a poll (an informal non-binding one, I might add) lost. And the poll currently stands at 73-63 in favour of allowing "thanks" so it's hardly a resounding victory for your side, in any case.
Yes, I solicited opinions on that because I cared enough to want to make my contest posts as useful as possible. You got a problem with that?
And in fact, I have changed my contest posting (for example I no longer post age requirements unless it's other than the standard "18+"). But then again, there don't seem to be nearly as many people with issues over the way I post my contests, as there are people who have issues with contesters replying "thanks", etc. in every contest they come across.Last edited by ronin1701; Feb 9th, 2012 at 08:54 AM.
