Did I miss a winning call?
When contest organizers call to tell you that you won, will
they leave a message on your answering machine if you're not
home?
I was just checking past phone calls on my call display and
on Nov. 11th, I received an unknown call from Florida.
Did I just miss a big win???

Probably not. When most contest sponsors call, they will generally leave a message with their name, company name and a phone number to call them back at. Also, the majority of the contests on this site are held by Canadian companies, so it's unlikely that the company was located in Florida.

I have never won anything big, most of the notifications have come by email. My son won $1000 from Crush and later a Zune and he was notified by phone both times. The only time I have received a call is when I won a second prize in the Hain contest (value $110) in the summer and they phoned but did not leave a message the first time they called.
It seems that they usually phone for the big wins, like the trips that have been mentioned recently. And one of those big winners said they left a message for her to call back.
It would drive me crazy not to answer the calls from unknown numbers if that was the number I was using for contests. Do you have another phone number you could use for contests, like a cell?

Eeks, I have been missing a few calls lately too.
Usually those marketing companies will use e-mail as a way to notify the winner first. If they do call, they will try to get a hold of the winner as much as they can (for a certain number of days); and they will try to leave a name, company, and a number to call back.
On the other hand, telemarketing calls, they will just keep calling non-stop. It helps to double check on the internet, by doing a reverse phone number check, or just type in the number in a search engine; and if it's scam/telemarketing/a company outsourcing their numbers, somethings should come up.

twitter
I have another beginners question:
If someone that I am following posts something and I respond, hitting :reply" should my response show up on their page? (If they are following me also?)
I just tried to reply to someone then checked their page and it wasn't there, so then what does the "reply" do, other than show up on my own page?

Three of the prizes I won this year came from the states, and of those the phone call I received was for the Norton GI Joe contest. I find it odd that the call came on Nov 11, which is a holiday. More likely a telemarketer than a marketing company for a contest.
I get very few telemarketing calls, which may be because 1) I never allow 3rd party contact and 2) I show up as single and unemployed, which doesn't make for a lot of sales. I don't have call display so I answer everything._______________

I *think* the person you reply to sees it on their "home" page - which you can't see - the page that you do see is the page with all the tweets they make themselves
if you can see the reply on your own page, and if that person is following you, then they can see it on their page
does that make sense? LOL

I wonder what the ratio of wins is for one-time entries versus dailies? For the contesters that have won big prizes, which type is it usually from?

Most of my bigger wins were from Daily entry contests.
