I have a question for previous trip winners with Air Canada: They had given me a flight redemption code but airport taxes are not included - is this a common practice?
I'm not sure how common it is, but I do see it often in the rules (Winner pays taxes). I've won 4 trips over the years, and have never had to pay taxes.

Congrats on your win!

I won Leafs tickets from Leafs Nation. Mentioned it's from being an Insider, still unsure which exact contest, but they had a lot. Have in mind a person, as their birthday is coming up. From Leafs Nation.

Good luck all, contests shared.

It's been a few years since I won a trip but back in 2011 but then all airport taxes were included in the prize. Air Canada to Sydney, Australia.

It really depends on the contest and if the sponsor is willing to cover everything.

I've won multiple trips over the years and so far I've only had to pay airport taxes on two of them.
Usually the taxes are not too bad though.
Last year my trip win to Mexico required $86.50 per person in airport taxes.

I won one of the smaller sub prizes, convinced mother to enter a couple of receipts and she just won a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer.

Thanks to Missycat [OP]
Congrats. I wanted to win the mixer for my daughter. Sadly it's only 1 prize per household but we won one of the smaller prizes. But that'sbetter than nothing. Thanks Missycat for posting.

I have won 4 trips over the last 25 years. The first trip covered everything, but the last three I had to pay the taxes and surcharges. They ranged from $100 to $400 per person. One trip the rules said the trip was from Toronto and I am in Victoria, but the sponsor threw in the trip to Toronto, so I was happy. (Learned my lesson about reading the rules) The worst was with Sunwing. But I look at the trips as inexpensive vacations. None of mine were with Air Canada though.

I read the rules for your trip and it isn't specifically stated that the taxes and surcharges are extra, only other additional fees, so I don't think it would hurt to ask. Congrats on the win!

Won some tickets from radio stations that I found on my own. These tickets, either I would have never known about it, or I would have probably not gone. Both are performances. Great way to do something new once in a while.

Keep playing. Happy 2018 everyone!
