Guys, I was wondering, when you get contest wins, how do the contest sponsors contact you? Is it usually a phone call, or is it though email?

I'm afraid of picking up the phone (even though I have caller ID ) because I do not like dealing with telemarketers. I think that I may have missed out on contest wins because I do not pick up the phone if a caller is listed as a private or unknown listing.

Email would be a pretty easy way to get a hold of most people IMO.

I have won stuff with no calls or e-mails telling me that I won a prize. Sometimes in the rules it states how they will contact winners and finally that I have won stuff where for the math question the methodf was not BEDMAS. On a side note did anyone hear about the lady who was awarded a prize in one of their contests even though she got it wrong both times but was able to proove she had a disabilty.

Its usually really easy to discover if the person is a telemarketer. As soon as i notice that, i say "No thanks" and hang up. I use to be very polite until i realized that they keep talking until u actually hang up the phone. So now I do, my wife still tries to be polite and sometimes it takes minutes to get off the phone

As a former employee of the call centre industry, I can tell you that the most powerful thing you can say is "Please put me on your company's do not call list". Most call centres are 3rd party; by asking to be put on the company do not call list, you can't be called for any of the companies they represent. Keep in mind it may take a few days to a month for this to go through. You may also want to go to the Canadian Marketing Association website

They have a do not contact list for their members, although the telephone supression service will be phased out once the National DNC list starts in Fall 2008.

I have been home on a pretty constant basis since being laid off in February. I've entered my name and phone number on thousands of forms over the years. I have had a grand total of 5 telemarketing calls this year so far (most recent asking me if I wanted my ducts cleaned). One thing I make a point of is to never check the box asking if I'd like to allow "specially selected partners" to contact me....that might be working.
