Copying a video from camcorder to PC
Anyone know the best method of copying over a film from a camcorder to a PC? I have a tuner card but it only has the one jack for video so I can copy and record everything, but no audio..
Anyone have any other methods? can it be done via usb? what programs do I use?
thx

Once you have the hardware.. you need the software. There are freeware that capture video. I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro. When you "capture" video.. you are actually capturing the video and the sound (two different files).
Remember that video uses alot of space. Make sure you have a hardrive with lots of free space -- 10 minutes of video can take an average of 3 Gigs.
Hope this helps...

Regarding the guys who need the video... unless they can produce the right hardware and software.. they'll have to wait.

Nov 30th, 2005 07:29 PM #12Hey, yours is NOT exactly a Hi-8 ... It's a Digital-8 !!! Although it uses Hi-8 tapes, it records in digital format. Yes, you can use iLink/Firewire to transfer !

Take Cyber6's suggestion, go Firewire (digital lossless transfer). For hardware, you need a Firewire PCI card and a 1394 cable. For software, WinXP has Windows Movie Maker built-in. You may want to try that first. Oh, of course, I assume you have plenty of diskspace available.

Nov 30th, 2005 09:24 PM #15I believe the USB port is mainly for tranferring the images in the memory card to the PC.
