[Costco] 55" Haier 4K[3,840 x 2,160] LED TV - $449(+29.99 for 5 year warranty.).

I saw this at the St. Catharines location. I haven't had a chance to look into the set yet to see how decent or bad it is for a discount brand. You can also get additional 3 years of warranty for $29 if you buy from the store.

TL:DR; Good bang for buck TV set with poor sound

Dimensions of the box [54 1/4 x 33 3/4 x 7 3/8] (if you want to try and fit it in your vehicle.)

The stand from the widest outside point to widest outside point measures 43 1/4 inches

The TV like all 4k TV's scales 1080p content perfectly

Factory settings can be accessed by MENU + 1147 (cf page 43)
If you want to see pics of 4:4:4 vs. 4:2:0 chroma go here

This TV does not do 4:4:4 4K @ 60hz but it does do 4:4:4 4K@ 30hz

Couple of things to note regarding calibration:

- Copying settings between sets (even same make and model) serves no real purpose (you are better off just eyeballing the needed changes), each set needs to be calibrated on it's own based on the individual panel inside it and the ambient light conditions where the set is installed).

- Source calibration (PC, laptop, BR player .. etc) shouldn't be done unless there is a display parameter that either can't be properly calibrated on the TV or doesn't survive power cycling, set doesn't support per input calibration (the Haier does, furthermore you can individually calibrate different signals from same input i.e. 720p, 1080p and 4k) or you have multiple sources behind a switch going to the same input of the TV. Otherwise, calibration should be done mainly using TV calibration knobs (user and service menu).

- Check the AVS calibration guide in the OP of the owners thread it has the calibration instructions as well as the calibration material to use (its pretty basic and straightforward: brightness, contrast then white balance, but it will take you a long way).

I can't find much online unfortunately, good news, it's from Costco so I might just pick it up and try it anyways.

I grabbed the 65" Haier from the last Costco sale. Picture quality is great, audio is garbage.

Pretty much all new tv has garbage sound. There is no way they can pack a respectable speaker with the thinness they are going for nowadays.

Nah, this is beyond horrible for sound. It sounds like a 100 foot long tin can. I just added a sidebar and problem fixed. I love the tv.

This looks better than the RCA RCSS tv.
Better warranty/returns with costco and Haier is a better brand than RCA

Quick question - is it worth getting a 4K tv if inputs will be 1080p max? future proofing would be good but does the down sampling create issues that would make a 1080p set a better idea? Thanks

No. 1080p is exactly 1/4 of a 4k resolution. So there are no down sampling at all. At worst, it looks exactly like it is a 1080p screen long as it is true 4k. There are panel out there that are fake 4k (stimulated pixel count instead of real pixel) but those are only for old base model LG 4k TVs.

4k scales perfectly with 1080p so it really shouldnt be a problem one way or another.

for what its worth, last review says 4k is only 30hz
.. but then he goes on saying this..
This TV is able to run 4K at 60hz but you must use the correct hardware. check to make sure the media device you plan to use is able to run 60hz at 4K. would add back a star after learning this but there appears to be no edit function for the original post.

I took home a 65" Haier in a Subaru Forester. I'm guessing a 55" wouldn't be a problem.

This seems to be new model at a great price. Costco used to have 1080p 55E3500 at same price.

I picked up 50E3500 for 299 on clearance.

If this 55" 4K were to go on clearance for 399 that would cause mad rush to their stores.
