[Costco] Coast LED Headlamp 405 Lumens 2-Pack - $19.97 YMMV

Found this at the Costco in Scarborough, ON (Warden/Ellesmere) - I've seen them for $29.97 at other Costco's, but first time seeing them dropped to $19.97. YMMV since some Costco stores may have different prices on clearance products.

Picked up a pair myself. Smoking price for these headlamps - usually go for $30 to $50 each, and you get 2 for $20.

Great for BBQing at night, working on cars, camping, portaging, working on electronics, and all sorts of stuff. VERY bright on the highest setting but there are a three brightness options for the main white LED plus the option to use the red LED bulbs with or without the main light.

Not to rain on your parade, but these have been on clearance for well over a month - but if you have a need for them then a great deal. Can't go wrong with $10/pc.

Are they similar to Costco's 2 pack headlamps previously. I think final price was $12.97

Oh no problem. I saw them previously for $29.97, yesterday was the first time I've seen them for $19.97.

No one posted this deal yet, so thought I'd let RFDers know.

Eventually dropped to $6.97.

I think the new Coast units were supposed to be better, though I am not sure why.

Coast headlamps have nearly double the lumens (405 vs 210). Looks like the "Energy Pro" no-name ones were also weather resistant, but I guarantee the Coast design is more water resistant than those no-name ones.

I'm not the biggest fan of the majority of Coast lights or headlamps. However, the models that have an adjustable zoom are top notch and have decent optics when compared to cheaper knockoffs. At $29.97 or if you can get them at $19.97, these headlamps are a steal and perform great for the price to performance ratio.

At the maximum brightness, the light is very usable while outdoors and maintaining cars, and addition of being able to change from a flood and spot is quite handy depending on your application. At max brightness it gives my Fenix PD32 UE (740 lumens) a run for its money, granted the superior optics of the Coast probably makes it seem brighter and they do own the patent to it. It is also fairly light for a headlamp that uses 3 AAA that are housed all in the front, which is better than most headlamps that uses a single 18650 (usually heavier than the Coast). For those who need the keep their night vision sharp, the red LEDs are very bright when compared to some cheaper headlamps. Though, for me, the two red LEDs might be a little far too intense for its purpose.

However, despite the fact it does run on three AAA, it will eat batteries fairly quickly on the brightest setting. I do not recommend using alkalines or disposables batteries if can avoid them, NiMh are better suited and maybe cheaper in the long run if you intend to use the headlamp quite often. The AmazonBasics AAA gave me roughly an hour of runtime before the lumen output of the headlamp dropped to around half, which is fairly typical of AAA headlamps or flashlights, the batteries had about less than 20% capacity left. Typically, AA and 18650 lights are better in this regard as they have more capacity and will hold the lumens fairly consistently, given the thermal limitations. The headlamp is also fairly durable, not submersible, but, should fair well in the rain.

Despite, some of the negatives they are again a bargain at both the $19.97 or $29.97 mark, these are much better than what you can typically find at Costco or anywhere else for that matter. Coast makes decent products and these adjustable (flood to spot) headlamps take the cake for the price to performance ratio.

To save a hassle, buy at lower price and return with higher priced receipt.

Not a big hassle really. Price protection is pretty much always honoured. Just make sure you go to a store that has it marked down and in stock still. Receipt is easiest, otherwise just note the item number 1087612 or get them to search "Coast headlamp" on your purchases.
