I think this would make a great non-gaming monitor, no?

Link?
Roku premier, currently on sale for $80 at the source (you can get an additional $25 coupon signing up to their news letter).
@$55 this will give you hands down the best PnP experience of smartening up your TV at 4K resolution.

Most cheap smart TVs are soooo stupid and even the high end ones don't get much in the way of active development so their brains are quickly made redundant. So much better off with virtually any third party doohickey IMO. What good is adding a potential embedded attack vector/foothold/chinese spy you're never going to get aaaany use out of?

I swear just looking at my Westinghouse remote makes me dumber.
Please excuse my son, he's artistic.

This is not a smart tv?
I personally see that as a positive. Smart TVs usually have terrible, slow interfaces that will never get updated. Some of them are on par with the cable box. I rather choose my own set top box and have the TV just be a TV. Chromcast, Google TV, Apple TV and Roku are miles ahead of using the built in smart TVs

I had one of these which i just returned to Costco.

Although the picture is great, the sound is absolutely abysmal. A soundbar or home theatre is definitely required.
To be fair most TV sets don't offer decent sound quality. Consumers want cheaper prices all the time so manufacturers have to cut corners somewhere.

Thanks - was looking to buy Roku for the Haier 55" TV we bought in Feb. FYI... Just signed up for the coupon and its $25 off $100 and not $25 off $75 like Staples usually has. So after doing the math... Roku premier wont end up at $55. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone else who is going to try and use the coupon with the deal.

Now I need to find a $20 filler to complete the order and use the coupon or PM someone else with 10% price beat.

Sorry about that, you might want to consider upgrading to the Roku premier+ then so no filler would be needed, or find some batteries that are currently on sale ($10 reg $13).

Whats the difference - except for the various ports that can be used with the premier+? Do both versions allow you to control the streaming via cell phone app?

How do you add the warranty online? I can't see it on mobile.

Seems like the perfect use for an old useless receiver with speakers. Could you just divert the audio output to the receiver?

A bit OT -- I've seen these cheap 4K TV threads semi-regularly, but are there similar deals for 4K HDR TVs? (e.g. if 49" non-HDR 4K is $350, are there 49" HDR 4K for ~$550 that are good bang-for-the-buck deals?) Connecting to a PS4 Pro. Thanks.
Amerifriend threads need to include instructions on how to acquire an amerifriend.
