Costco: Off the self (no contract) Cell Phones (Ottawa, ON)

Hello:

Since the trend is low cost (and Hottest savings) BYOD cell phone services like: Zoomer Wireless & Fizz...etc. I need advice on the best off the shelf phones that one could buy:

Here are 3 offerings from Costco:

Samsung A3 @ 349$
Samsung A8 @ 549$
Moto g6 play @ 219$
& iPhone SE 32 gig @ 299$

Q1: Is the Moto a "good" phone for the price?
Q2: Which Samsung ? & is it crazy to buy at these prices w/out a 2 yr contract?
Q3: I know the iPhone SE already has a thread -- a lot of ppl like the form factor & it being cheapest option for iOS ppl does it get near the android options in terms of performance taking out the screen size?

Thank you

Hi,

Okay, then if you want to go with a low cost carrier how do you pair a "Hot contract" if you don't have the hardware?

How do you buy these phones w/out a contract for a good price? Is it 'cause the price is hidden or highly subsidized by the Carriers?

The A3 phone was offered by Costco mobile and turned out that you paid for the equivalent price over 24 months... or a bit more...(?) Maybe there was a kick back from Costco of $50.xx?
They offered an LG 9??? it was suppose to be 900$ phone for the same contract making it a "Hot" deal according to the mobile sales guy.

The pics and prices are for A5 and A8, not A3 and A5.

Since you mentioned both A5 and Zoomer, you can get the A5 from Zoomer.

If you want to buy phones with best value and does not want to go with the Koodo route, you have the following options.

1. To buy flagship phones, 1 plus usually has the best value.

2. To buy midrange phones, Xiaomi from online retailer is good.

3. To buy budget phones, check prepaid phones on discounts.

4. When eBay has 15% off, you can also buy phones from eBay sellers that get stocks from US carriers.

5. Costco sometimes has discounts.

My first recommendation is to not go with Costco, since they don't include koodo.

Most retailers were offering the S9 or iPhone 8 over the last 2 major shopping holidays for $0 + med tab ($360) - $150gc - $50 referral credit. If you feel bad about cancelling, you can port out after 2 years of service -- to which you're paying around $10 - $15 more per month extra over your budget wireless service (around $240 to $300 in total). The S9/iPhone 8 is still cheaper than your listed Samsung A8 from costco.

The take home message is don't get suckered into "no contract" mentality. Do your math and make sure you're getting the best overall deal.

Any advice on here to go to find the best price/deal for Pixel 2? Assuming it's the best time since the 3 is out...

I bought the Moto 3 months ago as a replacement for a broken phone. I think it is an amazing phone for the price. As long as you're not a power user, it's a great everyday phone. Battery life is insane and best of all: no bloatware.

Could I get an opinion on this?

LG Q6 $180
https://www.canadacomputers.com/product ... _id=122074

Just looking for something basic (but functional) for my son. Thanks!
It's a solid phone. The best bang for buck of the ones you've posted thus far.
Personally I'd either go with this one (LG Q6) or spend a bit more and get a Samsung A5 (2017 model) if you're worried about water damage (A5 is IP68 dust/water resistant)

Note: The new A5 comes out in late April. Might make the 2017 version cheaper soon? idk

What does “off the self” mean?
Walk in, give money, get phone.
No contracts, credit check, paperwork, etc.
