[Costco] Dell Inspiron 15 5000 English Gaming Notebook 15.6" FHD i5-7300HQ GTX 1050 4GB 8GB RAM 1TB HDD $749.99

Hello guys,

Seems like a great price for gaming laptop with GTX 1050 4GB

I own the previous model of this laptop (i5-6300HQ, GTX 960 4GB, Ram upgraded to 16GB), and seems to run current titles (that are not too demanding) very well. Even runs PUBG pretty smooth at lower settings.

I would say that it is an okay deal because it doesn't come with an SSD and it's using an older 7th Gen Intel CPU. The 8th Gen CPUs offer slightly faster performance but at a lower power usage so the battery lasts longer.

For Black Friday, Staples is selling this laptop for $700

This one comes with a 8th Gen CPU, a 256GB SSD, and a nVidia MX150 videocard.

Overall, I think the laptop from Staples is better bang for the buck if you aren't playing any demanding games.

15 watt quadcore vs. 45 watt quadcore.... both made on 14nm process.... yeah I'll take the 7th gen chip. It's more powerful... and so is the 1050, obviously.

It was just a Lightning Deal on Amazon.com for $600 USD and sold out quickly. Pretty sure this has a US keyboard and the Acer one is bilingual.

I think you have it backwards. The 8th Gen CPU is faster and it uses only 15watts. The 7th Gen is slower and it uses 45watts.

I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't make any sense.

There has to be some thermal throttling going on because both chips are 14nm... so if a bench indicates that the 15 watt chip is performing better, the cooling solution for the 7th gen laptop being tested is not good enough and the chip is throttling under high temperatures.

Hi do you have a source for this?

$820.37 all-in with ON taxes and Masterpass $25 off. Seems like a solid deal for an entry gaming laptop?

There's at least one review online putting a 8250u against a 7300hq in a Lenovo Legion, and the 8th gen wins by a small margin.

Both chips are 14nm, which means they are built on the same process shrink, and both are quad cores, hyperthreading being the only difference.

How does intel manage to squeeze that much power in a thermal envelope that's 3 times smaller?

So I'm questioning the cooling on the Lenovo. That's all there is to it.

I'm suspecting that the chip is throttling. A lot.

Looks like 8th gen clocked slower and 7th gen beats it only slightly when it comes to multi-threaded applications due to its higher clock speed. Looks like the 7th gen isn't as more powerful as you previously mentioned but I'd definitely take this over the 8th gen since I would be keeping it plugged in when gaming anyways.

I'm just saying it's not a thermal efficiency miracle. After all, laptop chips are scaled-down desktop chips.

7th and 8th gen on the desktop are neck and neck once you disable the extra cores on the 8600k vs the 7600k.

So the fact that the 8th gen 8250u, consuming 3 times less power than the 45w chip, is beating it ...

Thanks for the Staples deal..
I'm not looking for a laptop now, but the deal seems solid.
I personally don't like Acer.

Well..... it looks like they did a amazing job.

Intel pulled a rabbit out of their ***.

It's (kind of) a miracle.

I was going to go for the aspire 5... but it seems like 1050 is much better for casual gaming

If you're gaming then the Dell is better.

If you're not I'd say the Acer is better.

50 less price, ssd and ram together are worth 100 more than a standard hdd and 4gb of ram. But a Gtx 1050 is worth about 100 more than the mx150. I give you a slight edge to the Acer for this reason.

Staples has sign up coupons and stuff too right?

It's a great deal IMHO. I've been looking around and not much comparable for that price

Great deal! If there wasn't the deal for the Dell 15 7000( /w GTX 1060) ~1200$ after tax this year the Wife would have been happy with this.
