No cancellation fee - you just pay back any subsidy on the phone. So in this case you pay $288 up front and then the difference ($1035-288 = $750ish) when you cancel. But you keep the $450 cash card, so net cost is $1035 less $450 (plus some misc charges). Call it $600ish on Rogers
Don't you mean 1035 - 288=747. Then 747-450(cash card)=297. Add on pro rated monthly fees, $25 activation fee, taxes. Call it 400 for the phone. That's not bad at all.

You're still paying out the 288. Total would be 288+297=585 before gst, pst and proration. Koodo deal was better a few months back. 200 up front on tab large with 100 GC and 50 trade in through wow mobile. I'd much rather wait for something similar to that. Total cost on koodo through wow, 200 (up front)+504 (tab large balance)-100 (GC)-50 (trade in)=554 before accounting for the trade in value of your old phone.

So what is the best (cheapest) way to get a S8/S8+ with the cheapest plan?

288 was subtracted from the MSRP (1035) of the phone already.
Where exactly are you seeing anything about the MSRP? Going by Rogers website it's $1035. $288 is the upfront payment you pay towards that.

Wait for koodo/ wow mobile to offer something and get the koodo quebec plan. I paid 554 for the s8 outright. 54 a month for my phone plan. I have 7gigs and unlimited talk and text canada wide.

This reminds me of the Samsung S7 edge deal a while back.

This was what I paid then:
Sign up with bell.
350 for phone.
350 cash back in Costco gift cards which you can use right away on the phone.
200 gift card for trade in. (but you didn't have to give a phone).

Call bell right away to cancel. 622 fee.

So total 450 ish for an unlocked s7 edge.

You also get a soft credit hit for applying for a line.

Costco phone are unlocked at first but lock to the first Sim card put in.

Mine is locked to wind now.
So assuming s8 through bell is same cancellation fee as last year,
288-425 = -137.
+622 bell plan cancellation.
=approx $485 for a brand new unlocked s8. No contract.
I say approx because I'm in Alberta and am not including 5% gst.

It was a really good deal then. I actually flipped 2 phones for 700+ then and that allowed me to get my current S7 edge free.

Still happy with it, so won't do it for this s8 but this seems like a good deal too if you can take the soft credit hit.

Cancellation fees with Bell are always the remaining device balance on your phone. It varies by device and by the promotion at that point in time. If the s8 was offered for 0$, cancellation would be $1035. Same goes for rogers. The only carrier to offer activation credits that won't get clawed back is koodo. I just wanted to clear up info for people who are interested in the deal and to not be surprised once the service agreement is being processed. $585 is a good deal for a personal phone but for flipping on kijiji or online not so much. Def not as hot as that s7 edge deal others got.

Minimum plan on this deal is 70 per month with unlimited local call and canada wide text. If you're on a value brand with a legacy plan(koodo, virgin, fido, public) def reconsider. A comparable plan (feature wise) to what you already have can be 50 to 80 dollars more than what you already pay. Over 2 years that's 1200 to 1920 more before considering the 288 you're paying in-store. At that point, you're better off signing and canceling or buying it outright altogether.

You were able to get the Quebec plan even though you are in Edmonton? Does that mean you have a Quebec number? or did you port your old number over to the new plan afterwards?

Know someone in Quebec? Buy your service in Quebec? Today, the area code doesn't mean jack but the difference in prices is more than worth it. I've done this for 33 family and friends in ON, AB and BC. They use my address but get online billing. They control everything at their end.

If you know someone in Quebec, this should be your way to go.

I'm currently on a Rogers corporate loyalty plan and I'm getting annoyed with them and was thinking of switching to koodo or fido. My current plan is $65 with 6GB, Unlimited Canada/US Ld, Enhanced VM included in Plan, 2500 SMS & Unltd MMS. Which is more expensive than what is being offered in Sask/Manitoba/Quebec. If you live in those provinces or get an out of province phone number you can get 6GB, unlimited canada wide talk and text for around $55/month.

yea, so no its not 400 for the phone, cuz u already had to pay 288 upfront
so its 400+288 = 688 for the phone
288 is not a discount

Exactly - the total cost is $1035 (retail) less $450 cash card, plus incidentals. ~$600

But yes, you'd pay it in 2 installments, one upfront $288, rest on cancel day later.
