[Costco] Costco Liquor (AB Only :P ) 3 hot new deals: Coolers, Cognac, swilling wine.
All of these just found at Cross Iron Costco, Calgary. Availability may vary at other stores. All prices + GST & deposit.
1) Smirnoff Ice (Original) 12 x 355ml cans $11.99. Yes, a dollar a can! Summer can't come soon enough!
2) Sonora Ranch Sauvignon Blanc $49.99/case of 12 (Sold by the case only).
"A blend of imported and domestic wines" at $4.17/bottle. I'm sure it's not very good, but $4 sounds about right for those evenings when you're opening the fourth or fifth bottle They only got 1 pallet and it was 1/2 gone. Apparently they're trying to do this every month with a different wine.
3) Kirkland XO Cognac $79.99. Sweet sweet nectar of the gods. XO cognac will generally run $150 and up in Alberta. I saw the XO and the price tag when I walked in the door and assumed it was just brandy. When I realized it was actually Cognac my jaw dropped. The clerk told me it's made by Hennessy. He hadn't tried it so I snagged a couple of glasses from the wine taster and cracked it at the till. Ooooooh yes. Is at as good as a branded XO? Probably not. I don't have any on hand to compare it to because $$$$$. But my experience with Kirkland brand (and the first tiny taster) tells me that this is an extraordinary value at $80. For comparison, Hennessy XO is $240 at Liquor Depot, $270 in BC, and $290 in Ontario and Quebec.
(Edit: ) Looks like the clerk was misinformed. Peyrat not Hennessy.
