[Costco] Macbook Pro 16" i9 1TB 16GB RAM W/ AppleCare $3629

Not really the greatest deal but Costco has now started carrying the i9 versions of the Macbook Pro 16".

If you're in the market for one of these AND apple care then you're saving about 8%. The same config on Apple.ca is $3918 with apple care.

Now if you weren't going to buy Apple Care then it's probably not a good deal as you can get the laptop for $3499. But 3 years of apple care seems worth it for $129.

Plus, you have a 90 day return policy with Costco.ca instead of 14 days with Apple Store or Apple.ca.

...one of the most un-self/3rdParty-serviceable/upgradeable/repairable laptops in human history.

(I have a few Apple products since 2001...I don't hate Apple, but I do hate some of their design / engineering decisions over the years).

I would expect this to have at least double the ram and storage at this price point

I'd agree with the RAM but I don't see many manufacturers selling 2TB NVMEs

The issue with this config is that an extra $120 on Apple's config site gets you an extra 4GB of dGPU RAM.

If you're doing video editing and or VMs for developing it also makes sense to go custom built and add an extra 16GB RAM.

The 16" has thermal issues that aren't being widely covered as the keyboard was on the outgoing 2016-2019 15" it replaced.

If you plug in an external monitor, even basic usage kicks up the fan speed which was never the case on the outgoing 15". It sounds like you're using a 2005 Dell Inspiron that you paid close to $4K in 2019/20.

Apple is also expected to update the 16" to Intel 10th Gen by WWDC.

Or we might see the rumored AMD chipset switch.

The 2020 13" upper tier specs leaked last week which are sporting a 10th Intel chip.

If you need something now this purchase might protect you if the leaks confirm a major update by June (within 90 Day period).

You save $129 through Costco, but you also lose out on being able to bump the GPU RAM to 4GB for $120.

I would pass on the prebuilt 2019 16" i9 configs.

Apple does carry a higher end i9 prebuilt in some stores that features the unlocked i9, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD and 8GB dgpu but it sits and extra $1K through the educational discount route ($4300ish plus taxes).

Thanks for that info, looking to replace my mid 2014, so I'll wait for 10th Gen intel Chip. Bonus if they switch to AMD, need a 16 core thread ripper in my laptop :)

I bought a macbook air, 4 years ago and after a year I just switched back to PC.. left my mac for photoshop and that's it. Overpriced and slows down after a year or two

I have a MacBook Pro 15" from Late 2013.

It runs just as good as the day it was purchased without any slowdown whatsoever. I've never had to do any maintenance to it or anything.

I WANT to upgrade...but have NO REASON to upgrade.

Depending on what config you got for an air, it might not be that good for heavy photoshop work. Should have an i5 at least
